And I'm going with the Barbara pendant to minimize flipping. (Thanks B.E.G. for that tip!) Here's the Barbara pendant:
barbarasdfkjsdjf.jpg

Now I just have to decide what chain length to go for. The Barbara comes with a 16" chain but I think that might be too short for me...I'm 5'8" so I think I look better with slightly longer necklaces. I might do an 18" chain with a jump ring at 17" and 16", or I might just go for the 16" chain and buy an 18" chain from somewhere else if the cost for the longer chain and/or jump rings is a lot more than the 16" chain.

Any opinions on the chain length (or the Barbara if you have it/have seen it!) would be appreciated!

I like it to fall in the hallow of your throat. I'd go try on some similar necklaces (just fakies) and see what length suits you the most.

Oh, and congrats on the beautiful bling!

I don't have the Barbara - but love it! Mine is set a little different from the Barbara, but it's also bezel set. And I am also tall. I purchased mine with an 18" chain because that's the only way it came (Blue Nile) and after it arrived I realized it was too long. I tried different lengths by tying the chain in the back and finally settled on approximately 17". 16" did look too short on me. I think it would be great to have an 18" necklace with a jump ring at 17" (and 16", if you think you'd want to wear it shorter).

Congratulations!! I love my pendant and wear it every day.

Oh, and congrats on the beautiful bling!

Hmmm, so you like shorter, eh? I usually like longer but I've honestly never tried on a necklace like this so I don't know what I like! Any tips on where to find good fakey bling to try on? I will totally go somewhere with my measuring tape to figure out chain lengths!

And thanks! BTW, I talked to Brian the other day and had no idea he was British/Australian/whatever his accent is! Ha! :cheeky:

Ooooh, thank you blueiris! I was hoping to hear from someone with the same type of necklace! Hmmm...I really do think 17" might be the sweet spot. I have a necklace that's 18" but it's chunkier than this and I think this necklace might be too long at 18". (I guess a .55 diamond isn't exactly chunky! :cheeky:) And I'm so glad to hear you love yours and wear it all the time!

I think I'll wear mine every day, too, at least during the week when I'm dressed up at work. It might be a little dressy for my usual style but I'm hoping I can integrate it into my everyday wardrobe, too. Thanks again!

South African I think. And Nordstroms for good fakeys. Macy's too, maybe. But I KNOW I've seen them at Nordies. You can also just grab a fakey DBY and use that, ignoring the other bezels and concentrating on the one you've positioned in the center. Also (obviously) there's Tiffany... but those aren't fakey's.

The reason I like it a little shorter for YOU, is because you are slim and tall. Asscher_girl is too. And that's where she wears her similar necklace and I love the look on her. And I remember from your wedding dress try on shots that you are of similar (stunning) build.

I personally go for longer, ON MYSELF. But my pendant is really big and it looks silly choking me. So I wear 18-20 ... but I'm a heavy girl. You aren't.

Ah, thank you-I couldn't figure out the accent! And I'll have to hunt down pics of Asscher_girl's necklace if they're still on PS 2.0. Okay, if your larger pendant looks good at 18-20" I think this one will be too small for an 18" chain. Hmmm...off to Nordstrom tomorrow to confirm! And thanks again for your help!

Anytime. Looking forward to the SMTB pics. Congrats again.

thanks for the compliment Gypsy! :)

Hey thing!! Here's some photos of mine. It's a .46 OEC at 15". I have a small pendant from Tiff's that is at 16" and I like to layer them together. I'm 5'7" and I love it at 15" even when I wear it alone. Mine is from BDG as well and is 18kt WG.

Can't wait to see yours!

Oohh how exciting! I'm so stoked for you! I can hardly wait to see it

Excellent thing2! I'd say with your lovely build, you'd be great with a 16". I love 18" but I'm way bigger...and even then, 18" can be long and the solitaire might get lost.

ETA 17" would be lovely too...less chokerish and still not too long. It really depends on your neck, which from what I can see is very slim.

Personally, if I was going for that necklace for myself, I'd go 17".

Yayayayay!!!!!!!! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

SO excited! I can't wait to see IRL neck shots!

I would stay with 16", or maybe go up to 17" with a jump ring for 16 in case you change your mind. I think 16" will look amazing on you, and not too short, but it's really a personal preference so the more options the better!

Have you gone into a jewelry store and tried on some of the longer chains with a pendant? Maybe that will help!

So excited for you!!! :appl: Can't wait to see the finished product! I am so jonesing for one of these!

How exciting!

You can also just take a piece of string oer twine and make a little "necklace" until it is the place you want on your throat, then measure the length, it will give you a good idea of your preferred length. You can even cut out a paper circle to tape to it for the best effect ;))

It's going to beautiful! Your stone is my sweet spot. K's make wonderful pendants. On your neck the color isn't noticeable and it allows you to go larger.

I also would keep it shorter. If you are going to wear it everyday you don't want it to get buried in your neckline or collar.

YAY!!! You're going to LOVE it!

I have the same necklace from BGD, and I find 16" too short on me. It would flip a bit at that length for me. I initally had the older style of BGD's sliding bezel pendant, it would flip almost 70% of the time, sent that in and had it re-made into the Barbara (when I had mine made, the 'Barbara' setting wasn't in their inventory - I think they added it to their standard inventory only after mine was ready and shipped). Anyways, it came back and still flipped around 30% of the time. After trying numerous things at home, I realized that making it slightly longer appeared to reduce the flipping. I didn't want to re-send it to BGD as Canadian customs are an absolute nightmare. So, long story short, I had a local jeweler add another 1.25" to the necklace. At the 17.25", it flips maybe 10% of the time? That I can deal with!

If I were you, I would do a 17", with a jump ring to be able to reduce it to 16". I don't think you would want it any longer, only because the pendant is very dainty and it would be lost if the chain was longer than that.

Here's a pic of the pendant at 16" on me:

123KamaBGD.jpg

That pendant will be amazing. Ideally an 18 with the 17 and 16 inch stations as you said - that would be perfect.

Beautiful! I am jealous! ;))

It's a lovely pendant. I have a 0.8 ct OEC on an 18" chain, but that falls almost 3 inches below the hollow of my neck. That's the way I wanted it, as it flips less.

I wear mine every day!

:appl: Oh yay! Count me in on the 17 - 18" bandwagon. Congrats on your soon to be new sparkly!

Thanks for all the advice and nice comments! Sorry to post and run-I had a busy Friday and Saturday!

asscher_girl-I really love the short length on you! Thanks for posting pics! I still haven't tried on necklaces-I need to do it today. I might just do what Dreamer suggested and cut string! :cheeky:

MP-I will definitely do a SMTB thread!

TGal-oooh, I need to look at your pendant thread to see the length. I'm thinking shorter is better though, because you and Gypsy's pendants are larger and the smaller pendant might look silly on a longer chain.

B.E.G.-not yet-I need to go try! I haven't gotten the chance this week, but I might go somewhere today. And I'm so glad you told me about the Barbara!

Starshine-I'll do a SMTB thread to help enable you! And they do have another .5ish K! :cheeky:

Dreamer-I might just do this because I'm a little lazy today and not sure if I'm up for a jewelry store/Nordstrom trip!

Swingirl-yeah as soon as I saw the K I had to get it! The price was great and I know other PSers have said even a few millimeters really show in small diamonds, so I wanted to get as big as I could in my budget! And I definitely want to show it off...I think 16-17" is going to be the best bet.

kama-YAY! Yours looks SO GOOD on you! So you basically helped invent the Barbara! It looks so good on you. I think I want it a smidge longer than where the 16" hits you in the pic, so 17" is probably going to be good.

Steal-I like to have options so I bet I'll go for the stations, as long as they're not too much $.

Tacori-you should get yourself one, too! :cheeky: I wanted one for forever but didn't think I would wear it because it's a little dainty and dressy for me. But now that I have a job I have to dress up for, I can wear it at work and maybe I'll wear it elsewhere, too!

rosetta-mmmm a .8! Perhaps that's what I need to justify the longer length! Sadly it wasn't in the budget this time...but I would love an OEC pendant at some point! Do you have a thread on yours?

gecko-I knew you would like the bezel action! :cheeky:

I'll post later today when I've actually tried on necklaces! I'm a bad PSer this weekend! And thank you all again!

I am hoping to get one shortly :Up_to_something:

Okay, so I have a verdict. I finally tried on chains (from my own jewelry box :cheeky:) and then measured the ones I liked and I actually prefer the 18" length!

I have a dainty white gold necklace with a small initial charm that I got as a gift 6 or 7 years ago and the initial is probably only a little bit bigger than the diamond with the bezel. I tried it on and then measured it and the chain is 18" exactly. I think it's the perfect length, even with the tiny initial. So maybe my neck isn't as thin as I've led you all to believe! :cheeky:

I also have a yellow gold necklace that I rarely wear because I feel like it's too short on me, and I tried that one on and then measured it and it was 16". So I think I'm going to go for the 18" chain with a jump ring at 17", and probably one at 16" just in case I ever want to wear it short.

I can't wait until the necklace is done! I'll have to actually do a SMTB thread for once. Now that it's easier to upload pictures it shouldn't be too painful.

Ooooooh fill me in! Do you know around what size diamond you're getting for it? I can't wait to see yours!

HI:

Great choice at any length; altho I do prefer 16 in. on me.

cheers--Sharon

EXCITING!!! I'm excited FOR ya! I usually like those type of pendants to sit right in the hollow of one's neck ... but adjustable loops seem like a great idea for maximum versatility.

I recently got a small pave starfish that sits a teeny tiny little too tight for my liking even after increasing the length of the chain a bit. Might have to add more in the long run. The numbers won't make sense to you as my neck is like a tree trunk ... but I sympathize -- its so personal .. where things hit YOU & look best on YOU. Glad you found a existing necklace that you think is *perfect*!!! That's ideal!

CONGRATSSSSSSS! Can't wait to sees it.

.5 ct with a milgrained bezel. I should have it around the 15th! Eek!

canuk-maybe I like the longer length because I usually wear really long necklaces? I'm loving the pics asscher_girl and kama posted, but I guess on me I don't like them shorter! And thanks-I can't wait to get it! How have you been? Long time no see!

deco-yeah it is just personal preference, I suppose! And I don't think I have a super slim neck, either. My twin sis has a lil' giraffe neck, but I have broader shoulders than she does, and apparently I have a broader neck to go with! :cheeky: Have you done a thread on your starfish? It sounds pretty!

Tacori-awesome! I can't wait to see the SMTB! Care to share more details, or are you saving them for your thread?

I don't have a thread thing, but I will try and take a photo for you and post it here

My stone was an eBay special or I couldn't have afforded it. Bought for the princely sum of $700. Just got appraised as a G VS2

It sparkles as much as my F 1 ct cushion and is barely a mm smaller (cost of cushion=£10k but my honey bought that for my e-ring from rip-off Britain and it is admittedly gorgeous)

Twas a great buy, but likely never to be repeated!

I don't want to hijack your thread! Haha. I was looking for something special for my birthday as I firmly believe any b-days ending in "0" deserves something major ;)) I sent out a million quotes but in the end when with a local B&M that was having their 20% off annual sale. No one could even come close to their prices. I dragged Princesss with me for moral support. Can't wait to get it and I will post pics when I do!!! Thanks for letting me share in the bezel necklace excitement!!!
