I was so excited to go dress shopping and now I just dread it! I''ve only been to 3 salons, but I''ve tried on probably 16 dresses. One that I really liked was just way out of my budget- by a couple thousand dollars. But once I saw the price, I didn''t like it at all for that much.

Anyways, I really love the Maggie Sottero Brielle (see attached pic). But none of the stores around here carry it. I just absolutely fell in love with it when I first saw it, and everyone else that I show thinks it is just beautiful too. But no one around here carries it. One salon said they wouldn''t be getting it in until January. If my wedding is in August of 2009, is that too late to order it if I try it on and love it?

I''m at the point where I just want to order the damn thing off the internet already! I''m just sick of trying on dresses and people telling me, "Oh that is sooo you!" when I don''t agree, and people hating it when I actually think, "Oh this is kinda me." Like, do I not know who I am? And is something wrong with me? Am I being too picky? I guess I just feel like I should have found "the one" by now.

sweetie, don''t stress. i tried on about 60, yes SIXTY dresses before i found mine. you''ll get one, so don''t worry. as for people having differing opinions from you about what you look good in--FORGET THEM. what matters is how YOU FEEL in the dress because nobody else will be wearing it!! if you feel beautiful, you''ll look beautiful. just remember that you can''t please everybody. for example, my mother LOOOOOOVES fluffy wedding dresses-i hate them. i feel like a cupcake in them, so i wanted something much straighter and just slightly a-line. my mom hated every one of them i tried on...until she saw how ecstatic i was when i finally put on the dress that i knew was THE ONE. it''s all about how you feel in it. also, if you know that''s the dress you want, you should be able to get any store that carries maggie sottero to order it for you, BUT if you do that, it''s officially yours--they won''t order one just for you to try on, you have to buy it. if that''s POSITIVELY the dress you want, and you know it''ll look good on you (as in, you''ve tried on a similarly cut dress from the same line and know what size, etc you''d need) go for it, but do so with the utmost caution. best of luck to you, and you''ll be a beautiful bride, so don''t worry!

You may be able to get a bridal shop to call around and have a dress sample shipped to them so you can try it on. At the shop I got my dress from they will do that for a $150 fee, but that money can be used towards purchasing the dress or anything else in the store. I would call around and ask what they can do.

Also, you can always rush order the dress if necessary. My Sottero and Midgley dress took 5 months to get in, but I was told it could be rushed for about an extra 10%. Different shops have different policies though so I would check with your local ones before waiting. I think you would have enough time to order in January without getting it rushed, though.

The other thing you could do is try on similar Maggie dresses - ones with a similar top, ones with a similar skirt, and see how it works on you. If you''ve liked those kinds of dresses on yourself then you may be safe ordering without trying on the actual dress.

Cass, I know the feeling of trying on dresses and not liking any of them but the expensive ones. I went to a bunch of high end salons so I could find a style I liked and then looked for cheaper alternatives. I ended up getting a maggie sottero dress. I ordered mine in April 4, and received it at the end of July for my September wedding. It is not too late to order your dress in January. I didn''t even have to pay for rushing it.

Now, if that maggie dress is available somewhere, look on Maggie''s trunk show locator and see where the next trunk show is in your area. Contact the salon and ask them if they could request that dress to be shipped as well. One shopped offered to do that for me for free. Another shop told me during a trunk show that they could borrow a loaner sample for me, it might take a some time to locate it, but it could be done. I ended up ordering another dress since I really liked the dress I chose, and I didn''t want to stress out about waiting a month to try on the other dress. I have no regrets. Both salons offered to pay for the rush shipping too.

I hope this helps.

BTW, I forgot to mention how much I liked your dress. I''m sure it will look gorgeous on you.

I have called around. Two stores old me they could order it, but they wouldn''t be able to get it until January. They also said there would be a $150 fee that would go towards the dress if I wanted it shipped to them. Guess I just might have to do that.

GTN, which dress did you end up getting?

Thanks for all your help girls.

Any store that carries Maggie should be able to order it for you if you absolutely love it... Have you seen this one by Paloma Blanco? It''s somewhat similar.... Affordable and very well made!
