Hey all,

So, I go into the local Jared, Galleria of Garbage today and show them the engagement ring that I bought (GIA Excellent, 1.22, RB, White Gold, VS2, I color) looking for price ranges for diamond bands...JUST PRICING, for fun....When I showed that ring to the lady, she said, oh, blue nile? Hum, what is the color, and I said it is a I....she said, well, it looks too yellow for an I, which is probably why you paid what you did for it. I said, how dare you assume this ring was cheap? When you assume, you make an a** out of you, if I bought something here, it would make an a** out of me....with that, I left.....how rude!

I was so hurt that she said that though! BOOOO to her. I am NEVER going back there....I do not know why I even stopped by in the first place......I love Blue Nile, Whiteflash...

Sorry to ramble on.

Rick

Sorry about that, it seems to happen sometimes from what I gather. I certainly wouldn't give a store my business after that type of reception, not even for routine things. Enjoy your lovely ring!!

Man, if a sales associate ever asks me what colour my diamond is, I''m going to ask them to guess rather than just give them the info outright, especially if I think their only motive is to tell me whatever I have is crap compared to what I *could''ve* gotten at their store! If that''s how they treat prospective customers, I can''t imagine how they get any business at all. Bleh, be happy you shopped elsewhere and never have to deal with them again.

You know, I just don''t get it - I am a salesperson at a family-owned B&M. We have people coming into our store every day to browse, buy, and just to have their rings checked out and/or cleaned. Of course not all of them were sold by our store - SO WHAT! There is no way that I would say anything untoward about a person''s jewelry; even a stone that is not particularly pretty looks good after it has been thoroughly cleaned and steamed, and I tell the customer how amazing their ring looks. I have sold many wedding bands, both with and without diamonds, to customers, who bought their engagement rings over the Internet or at another store.
Again, there is just no reason to say ugly things to someone about their jewelry, especially when you work in a jewelry store and are supposed to be customer service-oriented. Good grief!

I've never understood this type of behaviour either. Being rude to someone just because they didn't buy the item from you is so unprofessional. People who have to put others down to make themselves feel better just make my stomach turn.

Good for you for saying what you did before walking out. I'll remember not to visit any Jared stores even if I'm just window shopping.

I bet your ring is gorgeous and she was just jealous. *hugs*

HI:

Sorry for your trouble. I am lucky I suppose in that I have never had this experience in any jewellery store I''ve been in. Usually I find they are rather kind--as they want to make a sale!

They likley get more sales with honey than vinegar!

I''m sorry this happened to you, it seems that a lot of people have had really bad experiences at Jared. I personally never have, but it all depends on the person you are dealing with. I have bought several things from Jared, including my engagement ring semi-mount, and I always find that I am treated well - offered water, had any jewelry I was wearing cleaning, etc. Here''s hoping that the next store you visit is nicer!

I have nothing to add to this convo except that I love that phrase - "Galleria of Garbage"...

And yellowrose, I haven't heard the word "untoward" in a verry long time, I like it!

Yellowrose, you are the exception to the norm when it comes to dumb comments made to consumers in retail jewelry stores. You have much to be proud of. You will have a lot more success doing it the right way, as you already have noticed, than scaring people away. Sales people can be trained, but only when the owner or management understands there is a problem.

Hee hee hee...I thought that was great too. I've been treated like *ahem* by them before as well. I will never purchase anything from them ever.

BTW the *gemologists* there insist that the only color of blue topaz is of the sky blue variety.

I cant believe it either! What trained sales person is going to make a stupid comment like this to a customer...she was belittling your ring in a bad attempt to get you to return your ring and buy from her!?When i was responsible to train new staff for my former employer I always made sure that new hires knew their employment would be reviewed if they were caught in this type of situation!I would have asked to speak to her manager or trainer and let them know so she would not try it with another customer...and I would mention to the manager that the stone was G.I.A graded.I still would write a letter of complaint.i worked for a jeweler that trained its employed that they were never allowed to comment on customers jewelry because they knew that a situation like this could happen.

That is too bad that happened. They certainly don''t deserve your business with such rude and idiotic comments.

While I''ve never bought anything at Jared''s, I''ve been in a couple of times. Their diamonds appear to be largely AGA 2Bs - 3Bs with a lot of 3As. The definitely seem to stock a decent selection of good clarity and color diamonds. Their prices seem high for the quality, but not necessarily crazy given that they occupy relatively pricey locations (mall rent etc).

That said, they can be a convenient place to get mid-range watch brands serviced (new battery for TAG, etc), its a pleasant shopping experience and the service locally has always been top notch.

I would contact their customer service and let them know about your experience.

Really, since finding a private jeweler, I see little if any reason to ever do business anywhere else, although there are some other very good local options.

OH that sucks. Take your business elsewhere!

I can''t believe that she said that-what a cow! There''s no way I''d shop there if they said something like that to me.

I do not know why I even stopped by in the first place......

Unfortunately, I have to agree with your post!! My BF and I also stopped in our local Jared''s. We had a HORRIBLE experience and asked ourselves why we ever went to begin with.

We had already purchased our diamond from GOG. When I told the salesman we were interested in looking at settings, he immediately wanted to sell us a diamond. I told him we already had our diamond (didn''t say from where, just the size). After looking at several "simple" solitaire settings, he says and I quote: "Well since you got your diamond for **FREE** you should at least splurge on the setting and spend some $$$ !!!!!!!" What??!?! He ''assumed'' that we didn''t ''buy'' the diamond and that we got it for "free"!! NOT!!! Unfortunately, we didn''t walk out immediately! We continued to look.

Now here comes the most UNBELIEVABLE moment: I asked him, "If we purchase a setting here, and bring our diamond to Jared''s to be set, how will we know that we are getting "our diamond" in the ring?" (no swap). Jared''s Salesman replies: "What are you PARANOID?!?!?!" (Looking to BF he says: "You''d better get her some THERAPY!!" Then looking back to me says: "What''s wrong with you...bad childhood experience?!??!"

Whether he was trying to be funny or not....we walked out....

Sadly, the reason that I asked the question in the first place was because a co-worker of mine WARNED ME ABOUT JARED''S after they (attempted to) swap his fiance''s diamond!! He had told me "STAY AWAY!!"

In the end, Marie at GOG found the exact setting that I wanted and GOG set the stone for us!!

In closing, I am just so thankful that I found PriceScope (and GOG) BEFORE we made any local purchases (and regrets)!!!

That''s too bad that your opinion of Jared has been marred by one stupid salesperson. I have had great experiences at my local Jared''s. Maybe they like the business, I don''t know. I have been talked to like that by salespeople at other stores in the Dallas area, namely Bachendorf''s. A salesperson at the Galleria location told me that they only set GIA certified diamonds. I was like You don''t set AGS certed diamonds? Bizarre! The Preston Center Bachendorf''s never said any such thing when I took my GCAL certed Jubilee cut in to look for a setting. Shows how one person can spoil the batch.

OMG - I would have reported him to the manager so fast his head would spin!!!

I am really sorry you had to endure that sort of treatment.

I will take the time to post my story one day, but let me just say, Jared is the worst jeweler I''ve ever dealt with!!!

I''m GLAD someone was rude to you the second you walked in, so that you never go in there again!!!

Count yourself LUCKY that they turned you off!!!

I''m sure your ring is LOVELY!!! BOO on them for SURE!!!
