I've wanted an opal diamond ring for 15+ years. I decided to wait on getting a 'nice' one until I get in the habit of not wearing rings 24/7 and until I increase my budget again. I also haven't seen any jewelry that I just love during my recent shopping quest.
I saw this little cutie that as a good cheap deal and sprang for it. It's so tiny it made me laugh. It's microscopic. Shockingly small. I literally laughed.
I didn't realize how zoomed in the online listing photos were or how many spotlights were used in the listing photos. I knew it would be small, low fire, and cheap diamonds- but it looks even smaller and cheaper in person. I wouldn't have bought it in person but online it looked better. I'm still glad I got it anyway since it completes a 15+ year wishlist item and was super cheap. It'll be a good test of opals for me and also was a good lesson in just how hard it is to judge opals by online sales listings where they zoom in to extremes, use perfect spotlights on the stone to bring out any fire at all, and make it look bigger.
If this one chips or loses color because I don't take it off, it's no big deal. That'll give me the chance to see if an opal can really withstand my wear or not. I recently had a brand new charm bracelet safety chain break on me, so I've been debating if I'm rougher on jewelry than I think I am. This super tiny, cheap ring is a good test of my compatibility with opals. A larger opal would probably be easier to chip than this barely visible stone but it's good enough of an opal wearing test for me at the moment.
Until I get my dream opal ring one day, this little speck of a stone will make me laugh at how shockingly tiny it is.
