OK, so I realized that bumping my dust thread might not have been the best way to announce this news. After months of hard work and practicing every weekend and going on lots of interviews in this horrible economy, I officially got my very first ever job offer yesterday afternoon.

For those of you who were kind enough to chime in on my dust thread - this isn''t *quite* the dream job, but its about as close as I can get, and the dream job is still very much a possibility. Even if it doesn''t come through though, this offer would be a fantastic opportunity and I know I''d be happy working there.

Anyway, I''m so excited and happy I just had to share - my DH is out of town and so my mom is basically the only person who knows. I''m seeing a bunch of friends who I was practicing for interviews with tonight for dinner and drinks and dancing but wanted to save it as a surprise to tell them all then, so I just had to share it here.

YAY

How are you going to celebrate? When do you have to let these people know if you accept? And when will the other job get back to you? Can you wait for the dream job to offer or not before you accept this offer?

Either way, WOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Thanks Gwen - I don''t have all details yet about deadlines, but I think I get about two weeks to decide about this offer. I''m going to let the dream job know about this offer, and see what they say.

I celebrated a bit by doing some shopping with my mom yesterday (I posted over in Shopping about it - pics later I promise). It was actually perfect - we had an indulgent girls'' day out planned anyway, so it felt doubly like a celebration, and then we ended the evening with a nice dinner out

Today I celebrate even more as I''m going to get my hair done (I''ve been meaning to for months) and then for lunch and some hanging out with a couple of girlfriends, then we''re meeting up with a bigger group for a nice dinner, fancy cocktails, and going out dancing. So I think that''s more or less the best celebration I could ask for

DH and I had already planned to go out of town when he''s back, so that will be an extra special treat now as well

I seriously feel like the luckiest, most spoiled girl in the world right now - I was so afraid to wake up today and have it all not be true anymore

Thanks MissGotRocks - it was definitely a tough year for all of us job hunters, and in a way that just makes it all the more amazing

Congratulations!!! Have you decided where you and your husband will move to? I know you were considering Dallas and Houston.

Congratulations! Hope you have a blast celebrating tonight!

Congradulations..... May your carear blossem and take you to the amazing heights of your dreams.

I know I have not posted much in the last 6 months.... (actually the last 1.5 years) but I always am chearing for people to succeed.

Thanks Zoe, Perry, MC, Lisa - the good thoughts are very much appreciated

Zoe - this offer would actually be in Los Angeles, although I haven''t confirmed that for sure yet - I could possibly decide to stay in San Francisco as well. But most likely LA. The dream job is in Texas - so we''ll see what happens on that front...

Perry - I promise I won''t get too carried away

We''re really just a bunch of nerds (all science PhDs or soon-to-be PhDs), so we''re not exactly the "party hardy" types, just looking forward to getting dressed up and being out on the town and not worrying about jobs for the night

Hahah, hey, chica, you are ABSOLUTELY entitled to feeling this spoiled--you have worked SO HARD to make these wonderful things happen for yourself! Don''t you dare cheat yourself by not celebrating your lovely little heart out! Of course, it sounds like you''re already well on your way to livin'' it up the way you should!!

Oh, and I popped over into the shopping forum to look at your future bag (didn''t post because I don''t have a bag like it but how I love to window shop!) and it is GORGEOUS!!

So, so cute!! Excellent taste, m''dear, and the perfect reward to yourself for a great achievement.

) together for a playdate! Haha!

Have a great time with yoru girlfriends!

Thank you all so much

Bee - your new av is too cute - I love Miss Amber with her hat on
30.gif

Thank you Maisie, Sharon, pjean, skippy, deelight, kama, phoenix, onedrop and rainydaze - you guys are so sweet
9.gif

Gwen I know you''re right - I''m trying to just get adjusted to the idea (but not too adjusted - still have to finish up my degree now
3.gif
) I''m going to try to post pics later today of the bag I actually ended up getting - similar to the ones in the pictures, and I just ADORE it
9.gif

Thank you Lynn - I''m biased of course, but I think the av (created by the wonderful Ms. Dreamgirl) is rather fabulous myself - that picture just cracked me up so much I had to put it up for an avatar

Harriet - I''m so impressed, what a wonderful memory. I am in a PhD program, however, I will not be entering academia - its not really where I want to be and I don''t think I''d be happy there. I do think that I''ll be very happy doing what I''m going into - it will give me a chance to build on my science background but also to think about how science relates to other issues, and particularly to business questions, so I''m very excited about that
9.gif

Hehe Miranda - how cute would that be? They''d probably just hiss at each other, but the furry feeties cuteness factor might be unbearable
30.gif

Hi,
Thanks. I remembered because I did time in a Ph.D programme myself. Congrats once again!

Congrats, Amber!

DH received his PhD in Chemistry and has been doing R&D here in L.A for the last 5 years. By chance, is your offer from a company that begins with the letter "A"? (you don''t have to answer if you don''t want to!)

Harriet - I had no idea. "Doing time" is certainly an apt way of putting it though, especially some days...
20.gif
What was your program in?

Chargr - It is not, and no, I don''t mind saying that much. What I''ll be doing is, as I said, outside the traditional science channels, so its probably not something that would immediately come to mind when thinking of large science companies down there. But I do look forward to attending SoCal GTGs if I end up in that area

Philosophy. The record time was 16 years.

Yay! Congratulations on your first "real" job!!! It''s really a blessing these days... Good luck with everything!
