Soooo I told you guys here about the car accident I was in three weeks ago.

After a lot of huffing and puffing and very very long phone calls, I finally got the settlement I wanted for the total loss of my car. The car involved in the accident was my 1998 VW Bug Turbo which was THE CRAPPIEST car ever and had a trade in value of $2500. So I did the long process of negotiating with insurance company for all the crap I put into the stupid thing and I came out with...

MORE THAN DOUBLE THE ASKING PRICE OFFFFFF...

$5,670.06!!!!

After I got off the phone, you should have heard me squeal like a little kid. My friend Sarah (who's been driving me EVERYWHERE since the accident) thought it was just absolutely hilarious. I had just shown her how to make bread and my huge closing line was:

"I'm rich and I've got banana bread. Life rules."

Awesome! A three week turnaround is nice, too. Sometimes it seems like insurance companies take EONS to make a decision. Good for you.

When are you going car shopping??

Yay! Does this mean you''ll have a car in time to make it to the Boston GTG?

Great news Nebe,

What kind of car are you going to get?????

ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY!

I wanted to go car shopping tomorrow but we just got a huuuuuuuuge storm with about a foot of snow dumped on us, so I'm thinkin it'll be a early next week kinda thing. I'm definitely thinking new (new to me, but used!) chevy/toyota/nissan/hyundai. I have another $1500 coming to me so with all that I DEFINITELY have the means for a serious downpayment or maybe even a completely buy! EEeeeeee I'm so excited!

nebe, snow storms are actually perfect times to go car shopping (since most people don''t so they are more willing to make a deal). DH''s cousin used to sell cars....

After the pain and everything you went through, it''s no less than you deserve!

Go get yourself a nice new (used) car

Nebe, from one used car buyer to another, and straight from the mouth of my daddy the awesome mechanic, DON''T buy a Chevy unless it is brand new. I had a 1994 Cavalier that lasted me a ridiculously long time, but my dad has said the quality of Chevy''s have gone down a lot over the years. According to him, Toyotas are the best, but also the most expensive. I have a Nissan Sentra right now and it has been great, and he had also Oked the Hyundai''s and Honda''s for me too, just no Chevy''s! Congrats on the good luck!

Yey!!! Thats fantastic!! I hope you get a fabulous car!

What great news! Maybe this will help your stress level. I''m a mess without my vehicle.

Nebe, Wahoo for your settlement! Just wanted to pass on my car buying (on a budget) ideas - last year I bought a Nissan Versa hatchback, and before I bought it, I drove everything on the market (haha, INCLUDING a 2001 VW bug - pretty much what you were driving). I ended up going with a new vehicle though I''d planned on getting a used. Check out the Versa - short of a chevy aveo, it''s pretty much the cheapest car on the market and I looooooove it. The Yaris sedan wasn''t out yet when I was buying, but I''m pretty sure it''s quite a steal too. Happy shopping! (mmmm, I''m so jealous! Loooove test driving...and reading consumer reports so I can beat dealers at their own game when they try to act like women don''t know nada). Yay!
