I entertain myself sometimes, but sometimes I''m just baffled.

First, I want to point out that I''m not in the market for another diamond (just purchased an amazing stone), but I really get my jollies through browsing random sites. I''m basically one of those gem and jewelry nuts (as of a long time, but hadn''t found PS until recently). This post is purely for my own entertainment and that of others. I get really into the technical aspects of a stone, so feel free to unleash your insight.


Here I have found two somewhat comparable stones. I know which one I would pick if I were in the market. However, can you explain the price difference? I can not.

Both are certed.
They are both cushion brilliant.
They are within 1 color and clarity range of each other without making leaps into other ranges.
They are within three points of each other.
No fluorescence.
They seem to spread similarly.
A third comparison to these things with similar qualities at bluenile yields at most a ~$2000 price.

For me, this price difference is simply baffling, though it paints GOG in a very good light. It''s either that, or there''s something about this Daussi brand that is magical and unexplained.

For me, one look at the GOG ASET image and the 30 day guarantee explains everything (premium GOG stones have a lifetime guarantee).
Conspicuous patches of light leakage, suboptimal symetry and a noticible feather under the table all tell me this isn''t the best stone out there (not the worst, but not the best).

The Daussi cushion is a higher color grade, higher clarity grade, "eyeclean" and a branded cut (which always carries a premium).

All of these factors, though each one seemingly a small detail, do impact the price considerably when acting in concert.
