I''m about to purchase a diamond in a SI2 clarity. This is what WF told me
"There is an inclusion visible from 3 inches but not 10, it is partially eye clean."

what do you guys think? I don''t understand the term "partially eye clean"

Should I skip this rock and wait for a better clarity?

depends on how far away you will be looking at it. like, i''m really really myopic, so I can definitely see things at 3", but I wear contacts most of the time, so it wouldn''t bother me. If I wore glasses, I might pass.

you mean you pass as in you wont see the inclusion..or you pass on this diamond?

If I wore glasses, I might pass on the diamond because I can just slip my glasses on and off. Diamonds don't sparkle the same way when you look that closely, anyway.

I have a 2.28 J SI2 from WF and my inclusion is much larger than the one you are considering and is right under the table. See my IS below.
That said when I first got my stone I had a freak out that if it I held it up really close to my eye like 5 inches I could see the inclusion. OH MY GOD! I was ready to get rid of it! So I called Shay37''s therapist Brian to discuss the issue. He calmed my fears a bit and said: look, you have an amazing diamond, wear it for a while and see what you think. If you notice it and it still bothers you after a few weeks send it back and we will find another one. Just wear it and enjoy it for a bit and let me know what you think.
Needless to say I do not see my little speckle really ever. If I go scouring it out I can find it but I never notice it day to day. No one has ever said anything about the inclusion and even when I point it out people have a hard time seeing it.
SI2 are not for everyone but they can be a great value. I would not be able to afford a higher clarity plus I would not want to pay for something I can''t see!
So I will pass on the words of a wise man wear it and enjoy.

hi KT,

what exactly do you see on yours? a cloud? a small tiny dot?

Is this where the inclusion is (see my attached pic)?

thanks!

I can''t focus that close anyway so to me it would be 100% eye-clean! Depends if you think knowing it''s there and being able to hold your diamond up to your nose and see it would bother you.

If you''re not going to do that (i.e. hold it 3 inches away from your eyes) and if knowing that you could see it if you did that, doesn''t bother you, then I say go for it!

Does that sound convoluted or what! Hope my meaning is clear...

Yes that is the inclusion. The others I cannot see at all. When I do find it now I see a very small whitish feather. It really is tiny. Nobody lse can find it. I would hate to see you count out the stone if you can mentally put the 3" behind you. Believe me my guess is yours will not noticeable. Remember the people who are telling you it can be seen at 3" look at diamonds all day. They are not regular people like us. I would take a look at it and see for yourself, you will probably be very surprised at how little it is if you can even find it.

Thanks for all the info.
I''ve been looking for a diamond for almost 3 months, spending numerous hours every night trying to find the best diamond within my budget. This is why I choose a SI clarity so I can go up on size and color.

Make an appointment to talk with Brian on the phone if you are unsure about the diamond is the best thing to do.

I have one of those "partially eye clean" SI2 stones and when it first arrived I thought I wasn''t going to be able to live with it either. I have to look harder now to find it and I have asked and no one else has been able to spot a thing. I would have it shipped to check it out, they have a good return and trade up policy!!

Would it bother you if you could see a tiny spec from three inches away? If not, great! If so...then maybe you should keep looking. I would focus on this rather than the term for partially eye clean.

There are good definitions of Eye Clean, such as the one Whiteflash uses. If a dfiamond is "partially eye clean" it is 100% not "eye clean".

The real issue is; Do you think what little thing you see upon close inspection will make a difference in your enjoyment of the diamond? Many non-eye clean diamonds are being worn and enjoyed, If it makes you sad, annoyed, or disturbed to have an inclusion which you can see, get another diamond.

I spoke with WF today and right now I have 2 diamonds in mind.

Both are about the same carat size
E color, SI2 (the partial eye clean one)
F color, SI2 (this one a little more eye clean, and a few hundred $ cheaper)
WF told me that both are pretty clean (only trained eyes can spot the inclusion).
I ask them if they have to pick one (clarity as priority); they picked the F color one.

Should I go with what they recommend? I just want to hear what you guys think of this.

Thanks!

Between and E and F, I would definately go with the more eye clean one. I doubt, staring as hard as you could at an E and F side by side in settings, that you could ever tell the color difference, but you would obviously see the inclusion if you looked that close.

Assuming everything else is equal, you are definately safe with the F.

Based upon the information you have been given, I would choose the F.

hey guys, I really appriciate this. Now I can sleep and prbly put my order in tomorrow

I honestly think you can trust WF 100% and I think this post proves it - they are suggesting the cheaper stone, that should be reason enough to believe them I think
