After a two years of thinking about it I finally bought my diamond!
It’s a Solasfera from Good Old Gold.

1.91 ct
I
SI 1
Optical Symmetry - Ideal
Polish - Excellent
Symmetry - Excellent
Fluorescence - none
Culet - none

Width 8.09 mm
Length 8.13 mm (L/W ratio 1.00)
Total depth 4.88 mm

Pavilion Depth 43.97%
Crown Depth 14.19%

Depth percentage 60.31

(Edited to add link to it's page on the GOG website - Solasfera 1.91)

I considered practically every cut on the market before settling on the Solasfera.

I like a really sparkly diamond with a lot of scintillation - which is what I realized was the thing I most liked about the 1 carat RB that I had. Color wasn‘t a huge factor because my preference for the setting was for yellow gold. I’m getting too old to really spot tiny inclusions. The thing I like is to see my diamond sparkle when I’m wearing it. Especially when I’m driving.

I realized that if I bought a stone close to two carats with the number of facets of the Solasfera I would get the look I wanted (because the facets would be similar in size to my 1 carat even though the diamond itself was a 2 carat). An illustration of what I am thinking is in this thread (oldminer‘s post).

Scintillation and Size of Facets

I went as far as to test my impression by buying a 2 carat CZ ring (supposedly well cut) and seeing if I liked looking at larger facets better. I decided that I didn’t. I wanted the sparkle from the extra facets. At that point I was just down to watching the Solasferas on the Good Old Gold website for a few months until I saw this one . Everything seemed to add up so I gave them a call.

I’ll post pictures of the ring once I get it. I'm planning to have it set in a 6 prong Vatche Royal Crown with channel set diamonds 18K gold with Platinum head.

Congratulations.
You are going to be very happy!

Yay for you, congrats!!! Can''t wait for the pics!!!

yay can''t wait to see pictures, it sounds divine! i know what you mean about the larger the diamond the larger the facets on the regular faceted stones, when i first saw my 2.32 i was a little surprised by the larger facets compared to my old 1.60c but now i really love the look. please post pictures once it''s all done...congrats!

Wow, that is terrific to find a 1.9!!! Can you give us the GOG link to the stone? I''d love to see it!

Congrats! Can''t wait to see it!

I just edited my post to add a link to my diamond''s web page.

Isn''t the internet wonderful? There is no way you would drop by the same jewelry store practically every day for months and ask the jeweler to show you diamonds day after day the way you can look by watching a website. Just waiting for the one to come along that fianlly spoke to you. I imagine they''d get pretty tired of seeing you. But the internet makes it possible for someone in Marietta Ga to "shop" every day in New York. This is better than anything I could find around here.

I absolutely agree about the advantages of internet diamond shopping! I am certainly ending up with a much better diamond than I could have gotten locally as well!

Your diamond looks amazing! I can''t wait to see pictures when you get it! I am wondering why they haven''t marked your diamond as "on hold" or "sold" yet. It is still coming up on the search on the site. Maybe they are behind since most of them are on vacation?

They tell you to bookmark the page so you''ll still be able to see it for yourself after they take it down from their listings on their main site.
GOG may be a lttle behind on updating their website since they are on vacation. The link I attached is the one I bookmarked.

kewl
congrates!

Do you have other specs on it (ie, pav and crown angles?) I''ve always been curious how a Solasfera compares in that way to a "regular" RB. Thanks!

I love GOG and can''t wait to see pics of your diamond it sounds like its a nice one
