Spark,

Congrats, it will be beautiful. I had to post because I was considering that very stone for my e-ring but we went with an ACA instead. D VS2

YUM! You''re a sweet daughter to do that for your mom.
Betternotbigger ... ACA, huh? Show off!

I don''t blame you one bit. I was on the edge ... I really wanted the ACA but I couldn''t resist the D VS2 combo. It was just a smidge off of the ACA specs so I figured I would go with the D VS2.

For me, however ... maybe my earrings ... I don''t think I''ll be able to resist the ACA. Stay tuned.

I''m just giving you a hard time =)

I like this and will likely pull the trigger on it or something similar.
Casecracker - This one does look lovely but be careful of the ''thin'' girdle. Ideal would be medium - slightly thick or even thin - medium is preferrable. Apparently a girdle that is quite thin is prone to chipping or at least more so than one that is medium.
Sparks, just FYI a thin girdle on a diamond of that calibre is not likely to be a problem, especially in an ACA.
Thanks Lorelei ... Appreciate you keeping me in line.

Theories vary so it is hard to keep up on what is correct and what is not so accurate. This is a good bit of info to know though so that when I am looking in future, I won''t necessarily shy away from a thin girdle.

Thanks

What a beautiful thought and gift! I''m sure your mom will be overwhelmed and as emotional as you are about it! So generous and thoughtful!

Traci just called to tell me that my diamond chipped when they were putting it in the setting so now I have to try and get another one.

This rarely happens.

What bad luck.

Now I have to see what they can do or what we can find to replace this lovely D/VS2 stone.

Since everyone was so kind, I thought I would give you all an update. I''ll keep you posted as to the resolution/outcome.

That''s terrible news Sparks

Still with the reputation Whiteflash have here I''m sure they will do the righty by you and find an equal (or better

) stone for you. Just a shame that it puts the pressure on for Xmas now.

Good luck!

Oh no! I sure hope they treat you right.

Good luck!!

Okay ... Here''s the deal. Traci just called me and let me know that I can pick another stone.

This is what I have come up with ...

Please let me know which one you like better?

Option 1, Expert Selection 0.556 carat F VS1
HCA Scores 1.7 Ex/Ex/Ex/VG
Falls within both AGS Ideal & GIA Excellent

Option 2 - ACA 0.52 E SI1
HCA Scores 1.9 VG/VG/VG/VG
Falls just outside of AGS Ideal but is within GIA Excellent

Traci has placed both stones on hold b/c she has to take a look at the E SI1 one tomorrow more closely to ensure that it is completely eye clean. If you look at the 40x mag pic you''ll see that there is what appears to be a black inclusion right in the table... right in the center of the stone. It may be the culet, however, I suspect it is an inclusion based on the AGS report plot etc.

I''m stuck b/c I was hoping to go ACA, however, I am not willing to compromise on eye-cleanliness. I want it clean close up and on all sides. When I look at other one, it is clean, however, it seems a little deep. I was hoping to get a stone that was less than 61% deep.

I would appreciate your thoughts & expertise. Please share. .... Thanks so much!

oh no! I know you''re REALLY wanting an ACA, so how about this one?

Assuming it''s eye clean of course....

Or if you''re willing to step out of colorless.. this one sure looks purty...

Why my dear bnbd ... I think you might have a winner here. Looks nice and clean.

Could this be "crisis averted" ... Ms. Skippy was encouraging me to go G. I think that maybe you have found the perfect G for me ... err, um ... my mom.

Thanks so much for taking the time to look for this and post it for me!
