I cannot make a decision on a purse for vacation

We leave soon for our big beachy vacation...I personally didn't plan to bring my nice leather bag I normally carry, despite wanting to, because I didn't want to deal with leather near water. DH had a cow about that, for some weird reason, not understanding why on earth I'd change bags for vacation since I normally travel with this one anyway. I semi see his point I guess....? I usually put that in my carry on tote anyway on the plane.

I had bought a LeSportsac that was about the same size, and planned to bring that because it was nylon and figured it was lighter and easier, though if I put my wallet, phone, and camera in that (in its case) I might lose my wallet or phone pulling the camera out so I'd have to be SUPER cognizant of that, or put them in the outer non-zip pockets. In light of that pocket thing, I also got a Zella at Nordstrom as another option but it was MASSIVE so I decided probably not to go with that.

Now I am thinking I may just bring that LeSportsac along since it will fold flat and have it for when we go to the beach or whatever, since I have waterproof cases for my wallet and phone plus ziplocs and not deal with swapping my bag out at home. I already switched to my smaller wallet I travel with.

I also got that Longchamp at the Anniversary Sale also, and might take that back since I can't see a use for it right now, in part because I need a crossbody option, not just a regular shoulder strap.

What do you think I oughta do? I don't REALLY want to leave my regular purse behind, but I also don't want the drama of swapping bags around.

Bring two bags. The LeSportsac for when you are at the beach, and your leather one when you're out and about. If your DH "had a cow" over leaving your leather bag at home, then inform him that if you bring it and it gets destroyed he gets to buy you a new one. Why should he care what you use anyway?

Lol I did ask him why he cared so much, he just said it was silly to be so concerned about it when it's not ever a big deal any other time. I won't need to buy another, I actually do have another of the same, I just can't believe this is even a discussion with him...

He has shingles so he's extra on edge about everything...yea, how's that for irony, stress induced shingles right before vacation...

I'd bring both bags. One for the beach and the leather bag for using at other times when shopping, going out to eat, etc.

We just got back from the Caribbean. I used one of my Rebecca Minkoff's for traveling but it sat in the hotel room the rest of the time. I have a little Louis Vuitton clutch that I keep in my larger RM bag. I would just use that when we'd go to dinner/shopping etc. And then I just brought a little canvas no-name beach bag for the beach. Worked out perfectly.

I love my RM bags, but I use nylon Tumi bags when I travel - they're lighter, they're bigger, and they're cheaper, but they're still "fancy" enough that I don't feel silly going out for a nice dinner. Win all around.

The leather bag in question is my LP Dylan Medium. I swapped my normal Tumi bigass Capra travel zip around wallet that is my daily wallet, for the LP Dylan Zip Wallet which I use for travelling since it's lighter and I don't need all the stuff in the Capra for travel like this. I had originally planned to bring a Cole Haan Swingpack thing, and then the nylon bag, and use the Cole Haan for shopping/dinner and the Le Sportsac or whatever for everything else. But he was like "that's silly. You're going to want your other stuff like normal, and then you won't have it. Why not bring your normal purse"

So maybe Ill just stuff the LeSportsac in the luggage to use at the beach/boat stuff, and then use my normal bag for everything else and deal with my camera as it comes. I mostly want it for the Summit tour were doing.

When I travel I use mostly Vera Bradley stuff. It's lightweight and pack able/ stuff able.
I'm just anal enough to wear only clothing that the pattern goes with. For example when we went to NJ for my nieces wedding. Everything was navy/white. So I had my Navy/white twirly birds hipster for going out and my " get Carried Away" tote for the times I need more room. I also have a wristlet that holds my phone and a few cards for just gab and go . Also in Twirly birds.
For the plane I had a VB Backpack, that didn't match my outfit, lol, but does match the rolling duffle!!
I change my purse weekly, sometimes more. I like my bags to go with what I'm wearing.

HAH! You're just anal enough. THAT made me giggle. I almost exclusively buy navy, bronze or camel bags, because I want them to go with EVERYTHING. There's a turquoise version of my bag on sale and I am lusting for it but it's not "practical" enough for me to drop $233 on it. I have a wallet from them in that color, and bright green and bright orange Tumi wallets. Accessories for INSIDE the bag I will go nuts with (my sunglass case is the flat hard eyeglass case from vera bradley) but for some reason I am too anal to get nuts with the bag. I am like that with shoes too. All my shoes are navy, bronze, and I might have a pair of black or brown or tan around. All my shirts are the colors.

I guess I'm confused why it matters which bag you bring on vacation unless you're actually carrying it to the beach (which is absurd). I just got back from a beach vacation and carried my large Valentino stud Tote. Obviously, I didn't actually carry it to the beach, so having it on a beach vacation was no different that having it on any other type of vacation. The same holds true for all of my other bags and traveling. If I'm flying, I typically choose a bag that's not too delicate - like my distressed leather Chanel flap as opposed to a lambskin Chanel flap.

When I went to Miami for a beach vacation, I brought a herve chapelier tote and used that as my main purse. I am very paranoid about salt eating my leather goods, and unlike the longchamp, the herve has no leather, and I can easily toss it in with the wash.

^I could understand that being a concern (salt/leather issues) if you were in that sort of an environment for an extended period of time, but not for a vacation. Maybe I'm just not that sensitive about my handbags? I suppose if I had a pricey, exotic Birkin I'd take the utmost of care, but I buy my bags to use them, so while I take care of them, I don't baby them (my bags typically cost around the $2000 range).

We go to the beach every year and I always bring a leather bag with me. I don't carry it on the beach but around town is fine. I would forgo the expensive bags and go for a LL Bean Boat and Tote bag. You can get one with a zip top and long handles, big enough to take everything you want to to the beach. I want to say you can get one for less that 45. bucks then you wouldn't have to worry about anything.
In fact, if you are flying I bet your good purse would fit inside.
