I was ready to make a purchase on a diamond. I read all the literature concerning diamonds down to the table and depth percentages.
I wanted to verify I purchased a diamond that would guarantee to sparkle and fire with color so I used the Halloway Cut Advisor on this site and was told with the dimensions I entered from the AGS report that the girdle could be dangerously thin but the report said the girdle is thin to medium which is suppose to be within the AGS 0 guidelines. Can someone please help me figure out what the following information really means from the online report and the AGS certificate??

From the AGS report:

Measurements: 7.50 - 7.52 x 4.66 mm
Cut Grade: AGS Ideal 0
Color Grade: AGS 2.0 (H)
Clarity Grade: AGS 4 (VS2)
Carat Weight 1.608
Fluorescence: Negligible
Comments:

Additional twinning wisps and surface graining are not shown.
Light Performance: 0
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Table: 55.5%
Crown Angle: 34.1
Crown Height: 15.1%
Girdle: Faceted, 1.6% to 3.9%
Pavilion Angle: 41.0
Pavilion Depth: 43.4%
Star Length: 55%
Lower Girdle Length: 79%
Total Depth: 62.0%
Culet: Pointed

From the online report:

Shape: Round
Carat weight: 1.60
Cut: Ideal
Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Certificate: AGS
Depth: 62.0%
Table: 55.0%
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Girdle: Thin to medium
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.50*7.52*4.66

I think you may have entered the numbers wrong. I get 1.5 excellent TIC stone.

Yep, those numbers will get a score under 2. Great stone! (And just a tip...AGS0 stones do not need to be entered into the HCA. They have already been evaluated for light performance by AGS.)

I wish I could kiss you both!!!!! Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can't go wrong with an AGS0 diamond. I cant wait to see pictures of it.

Quick question on this; what does AGS) compare to in terms of HCA. As when I entered an AGS0 stone into HCA I got a 2.9. Is AGA a little looser.

Thanks,
Mike

AGS is actually one of the more strict and consistent labs, and most PSers will only recommend them or GIA. It's possible that you have entered the information incorrectly as Sache did. As was said before AGS0 stones have already been evaluated for light performance so there is no need to enter the information into the HCA. You can be sure that if the stone is an AGS0 then it will have optimal light performance.

Without going back and doing an extensive search, I believe surface gaining might have the potential to be seen with the naked eye. And graining can have color, like brown or something Ask questions about just how easy it is to see and what color it presents as.

And twinning wisps are inclusions, and this is an interesting older post saying that they might have an affect on structural integrity:

That is a larger diamond, and as they get larger, the less likely they are to be eye-clean. There has been a lot of "grade creep" over the past 5-7 years. What used to be graded I-1 might get a SI2 today, etc. So ask a lot of questions. Pricescope buyers used to get eye-clean SI2s with amazing frequency, but not anymore. There seems to be a "no diamond left behind" grade inflation going on nowadays. Ask a lot of questions, lol.

Let me tell you the whole story......

We went to Jareds and viewed a SI1 G F color 1.51 carat diamond, it was a forevermark, but way to expensive, they wanted $20,000 for the stone alone but it sparkled like the fourth of July. We could not afford it so we continued to look and none of the other jewelry stores had a diamond that could match the fire of the forevermark. So I started researching what makes a diamond fire that way and it appeared to come down to the proportions so with this knowledge we went to Mervis Diamonds. We settled on a 1.54 D color SI2 and it had lot's of green, white and red fire. The cost was $17,560..We put a down payment on the diamond and the setting (the setting price was $4500). The next day it dawned on me that they did not show me the cert so I called and had a image of the cert emailed to me......I wasn't happy, it's probably a mental thing because the proportions were there but when I saw the draw of all the flaws it looked like a pock mocked moon!

So I started looking around on the internet and found the diamond I mentioned in the beginning of this post. I wanted to make sure I did all the research I could before making such a large purchase over the internet...we finally bit the bullet Friday and bought the VS2, H color, 1.608 for $15,260. It arrived Saturday (we have 60 days to return it) we took it to Mervis Saturday evening to compare it to the stone we had placed a deposit on.

To be honest the only immediate difference was the fire....the diamond we purchased online was beautiful and it sparkled lots of white, blue and green and a tiny, tiny amount of red. The Mervis diamond sparkled with more red than the online diamond. The we looked at each diamond through the loupe and again it was a mental thing it looked like a pock mocked moon and to know the Mervis diamond was about $4000 over the asking price for the same quality stone so I decided to stick with the online diamond we purchased.

Saturday evening we left the stone with Mervis so they could mount it in the setting.

Sunday I started getting nervous and wondering if I made the correct choice (we have 60 days to return it) and found this site and ran the numbers through the Halloway cut adviser tool.

As stated by other posters I entered my number wrong but they were able to do it correctly and it appears I did make the right choice.

Marcy,
Once the diamond is mounted in the setting and I receive it I will post a picture!
