Depth: 60.5%

Pavilion: 40.7° - 43.0%

Girdle: 1.1% (0.8-1.5%)
Weight: 3.02 Cts

Paul-Antwerp did a great job!
Now the stone has to be GIA certed, so I have to wait.
Will post pics ASAP.

(But I have to wait the GIA cert to be 110% certain).

I don't want the stone to appear white, so I will use white metal for the setting. I love K-L diamonds set in platinum or white gold. It has an antique look. The problem is that I still didn't find a setting because I don't like bezel settings, and that's the only kind of settings that you find for men.

Settings settings... The one I posted is 18k, it is not a tension setting (see the bridge?) and goes for ~$400. The series (or maker?) is called "Eurotrend".

I surely like Garry's supra-minimalist design. Once could only imagine a 4-5mm pegging a 8-9mm diameter stone to the finger. It brings Garry's "suspension" design to mind, and that is one great, rarely seen recipe. There is one thing I don't get about that feat of Oz wizardry: how long would that exposed girdle last ? For example, the 18k bezel setting I wear most often has acquired a fair number of scratches and marks from my rather unthreatening academic activities. It now has a nice rough patina. The bezel goes where the naked girdle in the tension setting is...
Same goes for the surface of the much harder sapphire cab in that setting: it does not look frosted, but that's no "mirror polish" anymore either. Facet meets on sapphire's crown wear even worse: would a diamond's girdle suffer any of that?

Agreed! Most men's rings are bezel set for larger diamonds, unless you go Tension or design one yourself.

I really like the half bezel set because it's smooth. No prongs to snag on things or lint fuzzies sticking outa the diamond all the time.

I'm with you Valeria, I would worry about the girdle on that ring, too! It is really beautiful but I would be too scared to wear it...

I liked the pressure set mounting you posted earlier. Not quite as striking, but practical. The protected girdle and the bridge underneath the stone makes a lot of sense. Too bad they hollowed out the back, but you can't argue the price. Where did you find it?

How cool!!! A men's ring eh? I've worn a K color super ideal for the longest time in a "claw setting" otherwise or also known as a gypsy setting. We've recently scanned in all the mens rings available from the Ingwer catalogue so if you'd like to see some masculine rings for solitaires let me know and I'll forward you the link.
