Hello again,

I had finally decided on a diamond online but it became unavailable as I tried to put it on hold :(

I found a different diamond on BN but unfortunately the best they could offer me beyond the GIA certificate is a photo of the diamond taken in their lab.

It's a 1.30 ct, G VVS1, GIA EX EX EX
6.98 - 7.01 x 4.32 mm
Fluorescence Medium Blue
Table % 57.0
Depth % 61.8
crown angle 34.5
pav angle 40.8
girdle med - slightly thick
cutlet - none
HCA score 1.4

The photo doesn't look very visually pleasing:

I got the following email back from a BN representative:

"This is why we tend to shy away from photos...because they end up confusing sometimes....more than helping.

Depending on the lighting and angles, we can make a bad diamond look good, and a good one look bad.

Regarding the brilliance, it's a GIA Ex-Ex-EX, so it is definitely NOT dull or dark in any area. It's very bright and lively. No issues there. These diamonds are the best and brightest that people can cut today. What you are seeing is a photo of a diamond in our lab, without any helpful lighting and without a product photographer to make it look its best.

All that to say the diamond is stunning and will more than hold its own when put next to any similarly graded diamond."

I know it's not a H&A diamond and it was not advertised as such. The email from BN would have made me happy yesterday but I learned about optical symmetry today from GOG's website and PS forum and now I may be a bit OCD not knowing anything beyond the GIA certificate and a photo of the diamond. It would be nice if BN has more info than just a GIA certificate for their non signature ideal diamonds. Am I overly concerned for no good reason?

Thank you again!

The numbers are really safe (as is the clarity) so I think that it will be a really nice stone. IMHO, you don't really need an IS on a diamond with these numbers, but I will defer to the experts here.

I think you will likely be able to get a bigger diamond if you go down in clarity, but if VVS is important to you, then go for it!

what, exactly, did you find enlightening about it? it doesn't apply to the stone in question.

that sometimes a diamond considered superior by technology may not be preferred by the eyes.

You could have the stone sent to you before setting. Other wise to combat that article you are going to need to work with
someone who does pictures (which we usually prefer).
