Hi! I am cygnet!

My name is actually Charlie, but you can call me either Charlie or cygnet, I don't care which. I am 24 and my boyfriend and I have been together for about 28 months or so. We have been talking about marriage since the first few months we started dating, though! I guess we just knew.

Um, intro threads are hard to make. What else to say? We have a five month old shiba inu puppy, and he is the cutest and the best.

We also are looking at a diamond, and we will probably end up buying it: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9580/

It's my favorite!

He will probably propose sometime early next year. I don't know what he has planned, but he has said that if he buys a diamond, he is not going to just let it sit in a box, he's going to get it set right away, and if he has a ring, there's no point in waiting around! So my guess is that we'll get engaged soon after my diamond comes. We'll see how long the custom ring process ends up taking.

Welcome!! Octavia is a great choice. What kind of setting will you put her in?

Ps your shiba is SO cute!!!

As a warning before you post a link to a stone you might want to put it on hold or buy it first. People hang out here and snap up stones that PSers link to (we've got good taste, what can I say?).

Welcome!

Welcome!

it's already on hold ;)) hopefully by cygnet!!

Welcome! That is one beautiful asscher! princesss is right...I hope it's you that has it on hold now!

Hope your wait is short and sweet :)

Welcome Cygnet! :wavey:

Your diamond is beautiful! Can't wait to see the finished product! :wink2:

Hi all! Thanks!

Oh no, I didn't put it on hold... but Mr. Man did  I'd been eyeing this stone for weeks and wanted to post about it here and ask for opinions, but I just knew someone else would see it and want it. So I waited in silence, refreshing the page every 20 minutes for the last week until finally BF decided to put it on hold. :D

I am hoping to put it in a trapezoid halo, if I can find someone to do the custom work for a reasonable price. I saw this design in a thread Gypsy posted several years ago and LOVED it, and then found out she didn't end up getting it done. I think it's very elegant and would match the octavia well, so hopefully it'll work out for me. Apparently the only place on the internet that this picture even exists anymore is Pricescope! Heh. Someone deserves to have it.

Hi cygnet! :wavey: It sounds like you won't be a LIW for very long! Looking forward to seeing you around the boards in the meantime.

PS. Beautiful stone!

PPS. I've just seen your update.. my jaw dropped when I saw the gorgeous setting! I've never seen a 'halo' like that before. !!!

Yayy!! Good that your man has it on hold. Only a (short) matter of time!!! That halo looks absolutely perfect for the Octavia. Haven't seen one like it before, and the flashes will match so well. OH goodness I am so excited to see your ring!!!

Hi cygnet! :wavey: Welcome.

What a beautiful stone you chose. It would look great with the halo you picked out.

Have you selected someone to do the custom work yet?

Hello and welcome!

I love your Shiba Inu! My dog, Charlie, is part Shiba or so they told us. He's a rescue so who really knows!

It's going to be LOVELY!

Welcome, Cygnet! I followed your thread while I was (self) banned from posting. Congrats on the stone, it's beautiful!! I love that setting, as well. Do you think you'll go ahead and get that setting, despite the costs of custom cut baguettes? It's so unique..and I'm loving the step cut + step cut mix!

I really hope we can do that setting. It's just perfect. It really depends on the price, and what BF thinks. The diamond is way cheaper than I was expecting to find. I'm not entirely sure what his budget is, but last year he hinted that it'd probably be around 15k. The stone was 8k, so if his budget is still the same, then we could afford to spend 6,500 on a custom setting (that's what Gypsy said it'd probably run), but I'm not sure if that would be excessive. I don't know, it'll depend on what he thinks. It seems like a lot given I wasn't expecting that we'd spend more than 3k for a setting, but maybe he'll see it as a good investment. I don't really wear much jewelry, but he knows that I'd like to have that ONE perfect ring. We'll talk more if/when we buy the rock and find out.

Whew, that was probably more detail than you were looking for... I kind of babble sometimes.

Have you asked Jon if he can source them? He custom cuts diamonds all the time, I'm positive he can get your custom cut. I asked him for someone else before about custom tapered french cuts, and he said he could do it. I'm sure he can do yours, and make your ring for you? Then you can have it all made in one store.

Ooooooh, good idea!
I will definitely ask him about that. He is so great, I have really enjoyed corresponding with him so far. I heard in one thread that someone recommended against using GOG for custom settings because they aren't known for that the way they are diamonds, but I can't imagine they wouldn't do a good job, would they? I'll look around on their site some more and see what it says about custom pieces. I would love it if they could do the whole thing. I mean, I want to order my diamond and see it in my hands, but then I'll have to spend the money shipping it somewhere else to have it set, and insuring it, and it just seems like talking to GOG might be a good idea. Jon is filming a video of my diamond tomorrow anyway, and maybe that'll be a good enough replacement for rolling it around in my hands.

Thanks for the idea! I will definitely look into that as an option. If they make it, maybe I won't even have to wait that long to have a ring! Maybe.

I don't think GOG makes them themselves, I think they use a bench. Usually jewelers use benches.. and often they use the same ones that other jewelers use. I'm sure they have access/partnership with multiple. It never hurts to inquire! Ask him if he can have his bench make you that ring, and source those baguettes, and ask how much it will be. If you don't ask, you'll never know :)) There are certain things, like delicate delicate pave, that I would only use specializing hand forged vendors, like SK/VC, but this setting doesn't look like rocket science.

Speaking of which, SK is around him, too, and he can always send the stone there, and have SK mail it to you.

For $ sake, why don't you get quotes from multiple vendors, including GOG and your local vendor?

Ugh, NOOOOOOOO, my response got eaten by server error! Ack.

Anyway, I've sent out 4 requests for quotes, including one to GOG, so we'll see what kind of solutions we can come up with :)
It'll be interesting to see if there's a significant difference in price between vendors.

And you're right about it not being rocket science-- obviously it'd be possible to screw this up, but I'm not sending it to any crummy old jeweler, so I think I have a pretty good shot at getting someone to do it well.

Bah I hate that my response got eaten up. I can't remember what else I typed.

I posted the video in my other thread, but for anyone here who wants to see it:

That video worked! WOW!!

And SQUEE! Congrats! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Welcome cygnet! :wavey:

I LOVE  your ring inspiration! It is gorgeous!!! I have a thing for step cuts so obviously ...

Congratulation on getting the stone. Sounds like you won't be a LIW for long! Ecxiting! ;)

Now to pin down the jeweler for the setting!

Eeeeeeeee! Thank you, ladies!

We'll be getting the setting done in January. I AM SO EXCITED.

Now how do I keep myself busy thinking about other things until then? Too much excitement.

ETA: ERD told me they can do the setting in platinum for $3500 max. Still waiting on 3 quotes. But at least I know one place can do it at an affordable price!

that sounds very reasonable!! Fingers crossed for you!

I've read a lot of great things about ERD over the years! I think you'd be quite pleased with the quality! :)

I'm so excited for you!
