Hydrangeas

Have any of you used hydrangeas in your bouquets? If so, please post some pictures! I''m thinking about using them and I''d love to see what you had.

Also... what''s a price range I would be looking at for hydrangea bouquets (one for me, and 3 for BMs)?

I used them for mines and my MOH mines was 65 and my MOH was 25, but I live in a college town so prices might be cheaper here.

If you do an internet search I''m sure you''d find tons of photos...Hydrangas are a fairly inexpensive flower option and they hold their color and shape a very long time. You could put them in water after your wedding and they''ll probably still be there when you get home from your honeymoon! They also dry well, if that''s important to you.

Hydrangeas are one of my all time favorite flowers! I''ll post two pics of my bouquet, which included hydrangeas as an accent. I have no idea how much they cost. My bouquet was part of a package. I do have some growing in my side yard though and they are gorgeous -- like I said, my favorite! I hope to see lots more pics of hydrangea bouquets in this thread!

They''re my favorite too, and I was hoping they''d be a little cheaper than roses!

Here are a few pictures I found for you... my sister had all the bridesmaids and "the toss" bouquet with hydrangea (faded blue, faded purple, white/yellow), and she carried Stephanotis.

This is almost exactly what our BM bouquets looked like. (FYI, when they dry they keep their shape AND color... my mom still has them in a basket in our dining room. My sister was married in 2000!!!)

This is interesting because I''ve heard the opposite. Hydrangeas are really common here in New England and many people use them for wedding because they are so pretty and inexpensive, but I''ve heard many times that they aren''t hearty at all and wilt very easily. Our florist had some in water when I went in for an appt. one day and was conducting a bunch of hydrangea tests to see how she could get the most life out of them. Also, a couple of friends of mine have used them and they were all wilted by the end of the reception, though those were outdoor weddings (where hydrangeas are more prone to wilting). A friend of mine''s photographer made sure to get all of the flower shots early in the day because she said within 2 hours they start to fall, which is unfortunate. I didn''t use them myself, so I have no first-hand experience, just info. from florists and friends. I really love them, though, I think they are so pretty.

I made the bouquets for my bridesmaids and myself. I used hydrangeas for the bridesmaids and peonys for myself.

I ordered highstyle pink hydrangeas from field of flowers for about 4 dollars a stem. I only used two per bridesmaid because they were huge. I don't think that hydrangeas are even in color so even though I ordered pink they had some green in them too. I liked them in the end and they only cost me 10 dollars per bouquet when you figure in the flowers, the ribbon and floral tape.

I had no problem with wilting but I did pick them up the day before the wedding, put them together and then put them in water in a walk in fridge until about an hour before the ceremony. They stayed nice from my 1 pm wedding all the way through the end of the reception at midnight.

I know you are talking about ordering them but for anyone else who wants to save some money, they took about 10 minutes each to make and I have never done a flower arrangement in my life.

I don't have any close ups of the bouquets. I hope this one is big enough to see them.

Depending on the heat, hydrangeas can wilt very easily. Some water and they usually perk right up (well, in about two hours).

However, since we are getting married in November and hydrangeas hold a special meaning for me, the pic is what the bouquet will look like. I think that my bouquet is running around $135 with the hydrangeas, roses, hyericum berries, and lemon grass leaves.

My sister/mom had the reception site set up some empty vases, on the cake table, for the bouquets to be used all throughout the night. It''s not like the BM''s hold them the entire event.

Those are very pretty... I''ve actually thought about doing my own bouquets. I''ll have to think some more about that, depending on how much time I''ll actually have right before the wedding!

I used a lot of hydrangeas. My bouquet definitely wilted quickly!!! Hydrangeas dry really well, but they don''t like being out of water and I witnessed it first hand. They also weren''t all that cheap, but luckily they are big, so you get some bang for the buck. Don''t have any pics handy right now though I think they''re on here somewhere.

I practiced doing my own centerpieces which will be white and blue hydrangeas in 5 inch cube vases with roses and the hydrangea lasted about 2 days in the vase and that included my cats eating them (which i found out later on can cause them to be very sick so be careful if you have cats) They are so pretty, I didn''t buy mine for the trial I just cut them off my neighbors bush. But the florist quoted me $6 a stem and I found them online at www.bloomsbythebox.com and www.theflowerexchange.com for about $3 a stem but you do get a big bang for your buck!

I was just at a wedding this weekend where the centerpieces were potted hydrangeas. They were gorgeous, but they wilted within an hour or two if they were in direct sunlight. It was probably 95 degrees out, so I''m sure that didn''t help either. The ones that were in the shade seemed to do okay throughout the evening. The best part was that the guests got to take home beautiful living plants at the end of the night!

We had NO problem w/ wilting... they looked gorgeous for the week after the wedding!!

P.S. What helped a lot in my opinion, is that we had vases w/ water on the head table and that is where we put all our bouquets. Stayed fresh and decorated the head table!

We had lots of hydrangeas, from lightest blue to darkest purple...the arrangements looked fine the day after for our breakfast party, but I'm not sure how much longer they lasted. This is light blue hydrangea with purple phlox, light pink roses, deeper pink snapdragons, and bear grass.

And my bouquet with faded purple hydrangea, purple dragonbeard, and pink runnuculus added to the mix. The bouquet was $80 and the table arrangements were $24 each, from the Kroger floral department!

I''m thinking/guessing that the ladies who had hydrangas in a humid climate see fast wilting. Those of us on the coast dont see wilting as much. Swimmer, you''re in SoCal arent'' you? I think it''s a climate thing. Summer was in Texas in the dead of summer, right? Anything would have wilted in the heat you had that day, IIRC!

My sister''s was early september in North Texas. Still hot, but we weren''t outside more than 15 minutes all together.
