I feel that if I can get a ring that makes her happy Ill be happy and if I get a ring that makes both of us happy, ill be ecstatic. or am i wrong for thinking like that?
isnt the saying.. happy wife, happy life. Ill just be a little more happy.

Only you can know for sure (or find out) what her preferences are. I'm pretty frugal, so a brand name wouldn't be a goal for me, and my husband knows it. I also hate feeling like I could have gotten something just as good or even better for less money. I also would have been annoyed if my DH proposed without a ring and then made me go shopping for one, because I dislike shopping and would think "do your job, buy the dang ring"!

Agree with Rubybeth. Also, it seems like the HW ring is all about what you want to give her which I suppose is fine. I would just think the focus would be her happiness. If she is like most(not all) girls, she would like a bigger diamond over a smaller diamond(that happens to have a name brand inscribed on the inside).

Lastmanstanding, it's tough being the guy isn't it?? From one man to another, hang in there...when she learns of the countless hours you devoted to finding her the perfect ring--whichever ring that may be--it will all be worth it.

I've spent my fair share of time in various Harry Winston salons and my take on it is this: there is nothing that approximates their Round Brilliant Solitaire setting. While diamonds are diamonds (earth-made and "simply" cut to exacting proportions), the setting is art. Legal issues aside, even if someone were to reproduce it, it would likely never approximate the original...never have the same emotion and feeling, or in more practical terms, never have quite the same aesthetic qualities as the original. If you do find a similar setting that you like, then by all means do consider the merits of that setting--as many on the forums will be quick to note, it will likely be less expensive.

If you want the original, you will have to buy a Harry Winston.

p.s. Are you in either California or Las Vegas? I have the contact of an extremely helpful and patient Harry Winston sales associate, if you desire... Will trade for info of whoever you were talking to at VCA? (Or, I'll just give it to you with my best wishes. Good luck! ::) )

Iohan thanks for the reply, HW is the ring for her. my SA was has gone above and beyond the duty of a SA.
I'll PM you my VCA SA information and the details. is there a PM feature on this forum?

There is no way to PM on here, and no personal contact info is allowed. You can post the SA's info on the board, but not your own.

Lastmanstanding, if you don't mind, would you kindly consider Ame's suggestion? I will be sure to monitor this thread, so you wouldn't have to keep the SA's info on the forums for too long (i.e. you can then edit it out). It would really, really help! Thanks again!

I'm wondering what you will do if you propose without a ring, then take her shopping and she assumes you have the $$ that would be expected of a harry winston shopping experience. What will you do show her the ONE ring that the SA found in your budget? Say she finds something else and it is ENTIRELY out of your price range? I find this to be quite risky - if you had found say 3-5 rings in the range and she was taken into a room to see if she liked them thats one thing...but to take her to a store where pretty much everything is well out of the price range seems kinda dangerous.

I'd prefer my SO to buy the ring he could afford rather than him take me into a store where i would walk through and see all this amazing bling and then there's only ONE RING and really have no choice - either to take the ring or move on to the next high end retail store where there might be one more ring and so on. Sounds like it would kinda take the fun out of it.

11k is an amazing budget. Just doesn't go that far in that brand. My suggestion would be to buy the ring you wanted and propose with that. I'm sure she will love anything you give her and if she really disliked it - im sure they have a return policy!

Just my 2 cents. Good luck!!

I am going to agree that you should just buy the ring you believe is the best in your budget. It is very dangerous taking a girl in a store like HW when most of the e-ring inventory will be above the budget. If you give her the ring you have chosen, it will be all she sees and I am sure she will love it. But don't try to buy it for her with her present with all the 1-5+ ct. diamonds in the case.

Ugh, I didn't even think of this! LoveLikeCrazy and DS make excellent points. Just buy her the HW ring you want to give her, and then let her know that if she isn't completely in love with the ring, it's returnable.

HI:

Let us know how it turns out! I am thrilled for you! I cannot wait to see hand pictures of the ring!
