i have been offered $10,000 for a set ring with this stone, and it''s a HRD cert

Carat:1.01
Clarity: VS2
Colour:E
size: 6.49-6.53 x 3.93
depth: 60.4 (calculated myself as HRD does not provide)
Table: 58%
girdle: medium, 3%
Pavillion:43%
Crown: 14.5%
Finish: Very Good
Proportions: Very Good
culet: pointed
Florescence: none
HCA: 1.3

the hrd cert does not provide info on crown or pavillion angles, the setting probably cost a bit more as it as little diamonds all over totalling 0.55 carats apparently. is this a good buy? how would such a diamond rate? is it true that a diamond with a HRD cert probably meant that the jeweller is sure it wldn''t get a AGS-0 or GIA-3EX and therefore sent it to HRD?

is there a simple way or formula to calculate crown and pavillon angles from percentage?

otherwise, i thought the ring was beautiful.

Hi Jonny!

HRD is more widely known in Europe rather than the USA, where it does appear to have a good reputation. You could ask the seller if they could run a Sarin report on this diamond, which would give detailed measurements of the stone. I am not well up on prices for rings etc as I am out of the USA, to see how brick and mortar prices are set etc, you can compare prices for E VS2 of that size above using the search tool, I found one with a top notch cut for over $8k at a quick glance, just for the diamond.

Here is a tutorial on the grading labs, which will give you an idea of how the labs rank.

Just to let you know also, unless it is your preference, you could drop the colour to F G or even H and still have a very white diamond.

Have you considered buying online, or would you rather stick with a jewellery store?
