How would you set it? I have size 4.5 knuckles/ring size, but my actual finger is a good deal smaller I think. It''s an AWESOME cut WF J stone. I don''t like big sidestones, but melee are fine. I also love the classic Tiffany look. We''re deciding this weekend I think so I need opinions NOW!!!! I''ve been back and forth and can''t make a decision...so I''m asking YOU, HOW YOU YOU SET IT???????

isabel, imo, because you do seem to be struggling, and in a hurry, I would suggest getting it set in WF's Tiffany setting for now. Then sit back, enjoy it, and take your time deciding on a"forever" setting.

Hello Ellen,

You seem to always be willing to respond to me!!! Thank you! So, do you mean THE WF knife edge or the less expensive one on their website? My BF LOVES the knife edge Tiffany on there....I do too, but I don''t like how low it sits and also am afraid it might be a little boring? I know that sounds INSANE with the size of the diamond....it just seems that all the people in my age range (I''m 25) have sidestones, melee, etc. I wish I could just have my boyfriend set it in something temporary, but he''s not into that. He wants the setting to be used for at least 3-5 years. I feel like such a complete fool when I actually type out my concerns. I''m feeling kind of frustrated at this point...

Aww, don''t be so hard on yourself! Picking out the right setting is a daunting task.

First, I would say, get what you want. I know you love your BF, and are taking his feelings into consideration, but this is your ring, and you will be the one staring at it endlessly each day. He''ll get used to whatever you pick, trust me.

So are you saying you like the non knife edge, but BF doesn''t? Or you would like the knife edge if it sat a bit higher? One thing to think about, that''s a hefty size stone, sitting low is really not a bad thing, less risk in knocking it. But I''m sure WF could modify it, if you really wanted.

Also, again, because of the size, putting it in a simple solitaire is NOT going to be boring. It''s going to be very elegant, and BIG.

Personally, I think it sounds fabulous. And don''t worry about what your friends have, be different, be you. If a simple setting is you, that''s what you should get!

And you are very welcome!

Ellen,

I agree with you about me having to stare at it all day...and I am a very particular person!!! I am in LOVE with the shared prong legato at WF with 4 .03ct sidestones on each side. It''s the one I think I really want....but to be honest I think my boyfriend is worried people will GAWK at the ring or something. And you''re right about the height....if I had the shared prong, I''d like it set low....especially because I''m a dentist (well, ALMOST!). But I''d honestly love the Tiffany setting too if it were set a bit higher. (WF quoted me $125 extra for the modifications today).

So do I just let HIM choose because I feel like I''ve been more involved in this process than anyone else I know??? PS is the only place that I see tons of girls involved in the ring buying process. Personally I feel that we SHOULD be involved if we have to wear them 24/7.

I think you cannot go wrong with a delicate halo, as I love that look. I am not a total fan of sideless solitaires though, and have a size 6 finger so take it for what it is worth!

No, I don''t think so. Since he has already involved you, and I assume that''s because he wanted your input, then I think it''s only fair you get what you really want. If that''s what is going to make you beam (and it sounds like it more than the Tiff), that''s the one to get. People aren''t going to look anymore at that setting than a plain one. And it''s not like that setting is over the top, it''s not, at all. Just very pretty and subtle.

My hubby proposed without a ring, as he knew how picky I was too. Smart man.

Tell BF that you know he wants you to be happy, and this is the ring that will do it. (a pouty face might not hurt at this point)

What about the Harmony? I think the fishtail pave is beautiful and a little less of a big bling look. I think it would really show off your stone. As a matter of fact, let me find a link of Lynn''s set with the same size J stone! Hers was custom and the first set like it. Then they started selling it on the site.

In fact, she had hers in a shared prong setting before, and she loved this one a lot more.

ds, would you really call 3 pointers "big bling"?

No, not really. But I can''t remember the size of Lynn''s original set without looking for it. I just thought the Harmony set looked more elegant even though I liked her first set.

But let me ask a new question. Have you looked at the Leon Mege site? Because I would seriously probably have him set a 2.4 ct. stone!

lol Good, cuz for a minute there I thought you''d gotten even MORE size sensitive than I was!

I like this one too! I think something with sidestones would be lovely also, but then again I am a little biased

I love the harmony with the integrated head. But I''m also a fan of dicreet and classic baguettes. They aren''t large, have a nice amount of interest, and are elegant. Three stone bag setting from Vatche is my pick... OR the integrated head harmony.

Sorry I kind of left midstream last night....I had to get up super early. Anyways, I''m back and I really appreciate all your input. Yes, I like the fishtail pave but it''s more expensive than the other settings we''re looking at. He''s already spent around $15k for the stone, so I''d like to keep the setting on the less expensive side. But I''ll definately bring that up to him. I spoke with him last night about this and he agreed that he wanted me to be happy...he loves both settings and although his preference is the tiffany, he''d love the shared prong too....SOOOOOO.....I guess we''re going to try and visit a store and look at both types of settings with the same size diamond plopped on top and see what we think.

Anyways, I''m really hoping to wrap this whole setting thing up because at this point I just really want to focus on the engagement and being in love with my future fiance!!!!

Our men are SO PATIENT and understanding...I can''t believe how great he''s being with all of this. Poor guy....I feel so annoying!!!!!

Where, how?? I need to learn to shop like you. 15k for a 2.40 stone is amazing.

But I digress :D

I love simple and if it were me, I''d do the Vatche that Ellen has or Leon that Diamondseeker has.

They''d both show off the stone nicely.

Good luck :)

Awww man, you got the stone I have been coveting for months but hadn''t saved up enough for yet! I am in a period of mourning for a bit, forgive me. I was checking it daily and sooo sad when it was removed from the catalog. I was hoping to send it to leon for a micropave 4 pong tiffany with prongs so pointy they look sinister. I knew it had to have gone to a PSer so I checked here. It really is a super stone w/ unbelievable spread, do something amazing with it and wear it in good health! You are very very lucky! Please post pics when you get it!

Aw Kelpie!!! Are you sure we were after the same one? This one is actually a 2.39 J SI1...was that the same one? I know there was also a 2.4 on there...hopefully I wasn''t the one to make you so sad??? We purchased it about 3 weeks ago.

Thanks so much for all the good advice. BF and I spoke again yesterday...I think that he''ll end up getting the shared prong setting from WF without the legato head....he''s not crazy about the head. I''m fine either way when it comes to the legato, plain 4 prong or 6 prong head.

I just wish I could see the darn thing!!!!!! BF and I are both having bad dreams about the diamond being terrible!!! haha. It''s kind of funny that diamonds are actually taking over my dreams now!!!! haha

Isabel, with all due respect, is HE going to wear the ring?
23.gif
Honestly, most people here VASTLY prefer the Legato head over a plain old V-head! This ring is for YOU to love, and I think you should get the head that pleases you the most. I think you'll regret it later if you don't. You will also need to get clarification on whether this setting is now made so that it will not rub a matching wedding band or whether they will have to be soldered together. There were problems in the past with 2 rings like these, because the diamonds rubbed each other and chipped.

Ha! The real question here is, how WOULDN''T you set a 2.4 carat stone!?

Diamondseeker....you are all too right about ME wearing the ring. I am such a detail oriented/particular person and I love that ring. But it''s been difficult enough to convince him that the shared prong is NOT going to look too GAUDY. He''s one of those traditional guys who at first didn''t think I should have anything to do with this. But after all my research on PS he happily let me help. I just don''t want to overload him with demands about every little thing...I think he actually wants to try and put a 6 prong on the setting (doubt that will happen because WF will tell him about the rubbing from the wedding band). Also, I''ve been told from WF that there shouldn''t be any rubbing...but I may soder them together anyway.

Opinions please: does everyone here like the legato way more than the plain 4 prong head????

I do.

All I can tell you is that people here go to great lengths to avoid the standard V-head. I have been here over two years (and so has Ellen), and most have either had a modified cupped head like Mara''s, the Ritani head, and then came the Legato head. It probably has sold a ton of settings for WF. Take a look at LynnB''s ring or Maisie''s (there are others but those are just the names that come to me automatically). Just see if you like it....maybe you don''t and that is fine. But the v-head is sooo ordinary (I have it on my original e-ring), and the Legato head is so elegant and beautiful!

I like the legato best, but it''s really about YOU and what will make you happy. Live your dream.

I do love the way the legato looks on Lynnb''s fishtail pave...I just wish I could see it in real life.

But seriously, has anyone ever felt like you''re bugging your soon to be fiance??? I want this to be fun for him too...the problem is that we''re long distance and he never gets to see all these beautiful rings....the best I can do is show him a few on the weekends in between hanging out with friends, errands, etc...

The legato head on the WF website does NOT do it justice. I think that is what makes him dislike it.

Can you email him a few pictures of rings with the Legato head? Lynn''s was custom, but you can easily see the head on more recent WF rings if you do a search.

He''s seen Lynn''s ring online, but I can''t seem to find any on PS of the actual shared prong setting with a larger stone...
