Hi All!

My fiance and I bought our diamond before I found this site.
40.gif
The diamond has already been set and I''ve had the ring for about 3 weeks now. I can''t complain to my fiance because he already thinks I''m being a snob, so I''m turning to some people who will empathize. HOPEFULLY!! Anyway, here are the specs:

Round
1.28 Ct
F SI2
Polish Very Good
Symmetry Very Good
Girdle 1.5% - 2.8%
Table 56
Depth 63.5
Crown Angle 35.6
Crown % 16%
Pavillion Angle 41.1
Pavillion % 43.2%
Culet None
6.92 - 6.87 X 4.38 mm

Now I know that the depth is too deep and definitely won''t face up like a 1.28. Anybody have an idea as to what it''ll face up like? I read this somewhere:

(cubed root of the ct weight) x 6.5 = appropriate diameter. So in my case, the diameter should be approximately 7.06 mm.

so if i reverse this, using the ct weight as the unknown, and 6.92 as the diameter, i get approximately 1.20 ct. Thoughts?

One more thing, when I put the specs in HCA I get a score of 4.5, which states this is good, only if price is a factor. If I keep all specs the same and lower my crown angle to 35.3, rather than 35.6, it says that the diamond is worth buying. What does the crown do for me?

Thanks!

Hi,
If there isn''t any way that your FI will discuss trading in your stone, I wouldn''t obsess over what your diamond will or will not face up as. I know this goes against PS philosophy when all of us are hoping to find the "perfect" diamond, but I don''t think anything can be gained by you researching how good of cut your stone is unless you''re pretty sure knowing the details will make you feel better about the ring.

Just enjoy and congrats on your engagement!

about like several million other average cut diamonds out there.
in other words no its not the best cut but there are a lot like it out there....

This story might give you a warmer fuzzier feeling

On the face of it I think the cut #''s on yours are better. It spreads better too.
Maybe you could claim yours has better proportions than ''A'' Tiffany diamond?

Can not comment on the SI2 of course.

But as in the other thread - your diamond was / is a gift of love and a symbol. I hope that is more important than anything else.

That's a warm sentiment coming from Garry. To answer your technical question, yes it faces up like a 1.20 ct diamond with a 61% depth (good math). The high crown may put more fire in the balance than brightness. Fire is nice. As an auld aussie I know might say... "it's not a train smash."

The visual differrence between 6.92 or 6.87 or 7.1 is nearly negligible. They all look like like 1 1/4 ct. They all round off to 7mm. If it''s a pretty diamond, I don''t think I''d worry much about it.

Thank you Garry, John and Ada for your positive responses!! I think like anybody else, my concern was that if I was paying for a 1.28, I want it to look like that; otherwise I could''ve got the 1.20 and saved a lot of money. However, it sounds like the difference in size is not that great, which makes me feel better about the entire purchase. And like a few of you pointed out, it''s not really about size; it''s about what it stands for. So I''m going to stop being such a brat!!

BTW, the SI2 is eyeclean.

LOL! I think my fiance may actually agree with that. Keeps him on his toes and adds a little spice!
