How to you finally decide?

Just when I think my mind is made up on a setting, it completely changes. We aren''t talking subtle changes either. I go from James Meyer, to a fishtail pave halo, to a stunning solitaire. This is madness! So much beautiful jewelry here.

I even think, sometimes that I might want a different diamond than the one I have. A warmer OEC, just a bit bigger...

If any of you had setting confusion, how did you finally decide? I''ve been vacillating for months now.

I''m a very realistic practical person, so I discerned what type of setting my ring should have based on my lifestyle and when I was going to wear it.

(I''m guessing you''re trying to pick an ER)

Will you wear your ring gardening or doing sports?

Are you going to wear it all the time or just sometimes? Are you going to have kids, and if so will your ring scratch them?

What shape are your hands? do you want something similar or differen from what your friends/relatives have?

What metal is the rest of your jewelry or your favorite watch?

Does the thought of loose/missing pave bother you?

How will it go with your dream wedding ring?

How hard is your job on your hands (and your rings)?

Is the ability to clean your ring a concern?

Is your style "Trendy"? Will what you pick still look cool in 20 years?

Have you actually tried any of these on (or something similar) in a B&M? Lots of folks find that actualy trying on rings is quite helpful for changing your perspective (You find out what you actualy like vs what you think you like)

It sounds like maybe you just need one of each style - Start saving girl!

ummm- still going through it ...lol, with my first ering- didn''t really think anything of it- I was done (but I didn''t have PS back then to steer me in all these directions like you), now with my five year ring, I''ve changed settings three times, diamonds twice all within 8 months, anyhow, I think I''m done... sometimes you just got to have someone start on the ring, and that may decide for you (at least that''s what happened with me- it was too late to change my mind....again) Now i just collect other jewelry to keep me sane

This is too funny! I wish!!

Do people wear their rings gardening? I have my ring in a setting that is temporary. It''s made of palladium and I''ve worn it for about 3 months now. It is banged up! Maybe pave is a really bad idea then?

I have a really active lifestyle. Four kids, I garden, stay at home mom, we''re outdoorsy..but I have a girly side and that''s why I like the pave. I would be very sad to lose a diamond though. Maybe James Meyer really is the way to go.

Yup. I was jumping from style to style, unable to decide too. I took my indecisiveness as a sign that I had yet to find "the one" and I kept looking until I found the one that I just knew was it. (Just like with my dh, my wedding dress and my house, when I found the one, I knew right away.) Then I thought it over for a while to make sure I was really sure and I''m so happy with it. That doesn''t mean I don''t want other things- just that I don''t want to change my ering. I would love a warm OMC/OEC someday but that''ll be a rhr for some time ion the future.

I went to a few jewelry stores and just tried on one of everything.

I saw Kaleigh''s ring here (her avatar) and I loved it. I saw a similar ring on Knox''s website and knew that what I wanted was a RB center stone with pear sides and swoopy prongs (trellis setting). I must have gone to the jewelers a dozen times before deciding though.

I''m also of the mind that if you can''t pick "one," you haven''t found the right "one."

It depends on the type of person you are, though. I didn''t feel that way about wedding gowns or reception venues, but I sure did feel that way about my wedding rings!

I''m with you! I have found rings that ''could'' be the one, but I don''t know if I want to spend that amount of cash on a setting. I love Jack Kelege and Leon. The
Leon is about half of the Kelege. I have a solitare now and am not sure if I would love the more ornate setting long term. This really needs to be the LAST
one. When you figure it out, could you tell me how to do it? Sometimes, I just want to forget the whole thing and stay with my temp setting which is also
palladium.

I haven''t figured it out yet either I wore my first ering set for over 12 years until it was destroyed in an accident. I am on my second replacement diamond and third replacement set in two years! I plan to change it one more time, but can''t decide on rb with pear sidestones, rb with tapered baguettes, or solitaire. I have so many ring pictures saved on my computer. I have white gold now, and it drives me crazy having to have it replated every 3 months (my skin eats the plating), so I''m going with platinum whenever I can figure out what I want. All the gorgeous rings on here make it almost impossible to decide!

Okay, here''s my crazy plan: put on your see-into-the-future goggles or mask. Think yourself 5, then 10, then 20 years after this. Which ring do you think will stand your very own test of time? What is the most you? Which one looks the prettiest on your hand? It has to look so pretty that you won''t be taking your eyes off it for years.

No e-ring setting confusion, but I couldn''t pick a wedding band for the longest time. I was finally at Tiffany''s one day trying on rings for fun, and she pulled out one I really liked, and it looked perfect with my e-ring as well as alone on my band. I knew I had to have something like that (I had specific ideas on what I wanted to change), so I contacted Whiteflash and ordered my band through them. Advice from that experience, go into a jewelry store, tell them very roughly what your looking for, and try on every fool thing they bring you. Bring a notebook to write down what you like and don''t like. See if they will let you take photos (some sweet SAs at Tiff''s occasionally allow me some sneaked pics).

I always loved the Tiffany setting with the round with pear sides. Then one day I tried on a ring with a round set on a thin diamond band (round in the middle, band has small diamonds all around it.) I went back and forth, back and forth..... Until I realized that as much as I loved the second choice, the round with pear sides would always be what I was drawn to. DH wanted to get that one for me because it was more unique and for years I had told him I wanted the round with pear sides so he thought I would regret it if I changed my mind and got something else now. I think he was right - I got the RB with pear sides and really love it. I think personally I needed to get what I had always been in love with or else I may have regretted it later.
