We purchased a new diamond ring and wish to sell the other one. I''ve had a lot of warning that the diamond may sell for much lower than its purchase price. I''m also concerned about reliability--I would rather have a bit of info about the dealer or store before I go. Does anyone know any jeweler/dealer in the NYC area who is known for being fair and trustworthy with buying diamonds from individuals? Info about the ring we wish to sell:

Emerald cut with sidestones
Total carats: 1.40
Center stone: .47 to .50
Color: H-I
Clarity: VVS-VS1

Btw, I only have the appraisal of the jeweler, not GIA or the like. The ring cost approx $1400

Thanks in advance!

You might be more likely to get what you paid for it by selling it yourself, such as on craigslist.

I''ve consigned several rings through pearlmans. They aren''t located in NY, but I was out of state for them as well and didn''t have any problems dealing with them long distance. They take a 15% commission which I think is very fair and they do all of the work of listing it on their website. Here is their website: pearlmansjewelers.com. I wouldn''t expect much more than half of what you paid...but that''s just how it goes when you sell pre-owned.

KCour- The commission is now 25% for new customers who consign through Pearlman''s. Customers who have consigned in the past stay at 15% (if I understood Bill correctly).

I just sent my e-ring to Bill to consign and have consigned with him in the past, and I 100% recommend Pearlman''s. Bill is an outstanding merchant whom I trust without a doubt (and his staff!) to handle all of the items I''ve sent him.

good to know february bride, I didn''t know he increased it to 25%...although I am happy to be grandfathered in to 15%. At 25% it''s still probably the best way to sell since he makes it so easy for you and because his website has such a large readership. In addition, pearlmans is very trustworthy and people are eager to buy from them.
