So I have a loose center and mount which I'm looking to get set. How do I go about properly insuring the center stone and mount during this process? I have a separate appraisal for each but neither are currently insured. Do I wait until the stone is set before getting the ring insured? Also, the jeweler I'll b using has a great reputation but what's the best way to protect myself/assests especially since I didn't getting neither the stone or setting from him?

Most insurers will not insure a loose stone. The stone needs to be set, get an appraisal once set from the jeweler and send that to the insurance co.

Jewelers Mutual/Perfect Circle will insure a loose stone and setting if you have an invoice and/or appraisal for each. I just did that recently.
