How to price a matching trillion pair

A local jeweler found me a matching pair of trillion diamonds - F, .77 total ct, VVS2. This is an upgrade from a pair of Fs - .66 total ct and VS1. There seems to be a big difference in brilliance from VS to VVS cut...I placed the VVS's next to two pairs of the VS stones and there is no comparison. The trillions will be placed along side an ideal cut FL D colored princess - 1.56 ct. My original VS trillions looked smudged next to this rock so I needed to upgrade.

My local jewelry is quoting me $4900 for the VVS2 pair...is this a fair price? I'm not sure how to price these stones...if I use a wholesale calculator and price it as a pair of .385 stones, a get a price of under 3k...if I price it as a single .77 stone, I get 4900. I just want to make sure I am getting a fair price...

That sounds crazy high to me. Call Mark at Engagement Rings Direct and ask him for a quote and then compare. That's over 63 dollars a point. I would get some good comps and make sure I'm not being RIDICULOUSLY overcharged.

VS and VVS are the clarity grades.

VS and VVS are the clarity grades, and that should not make such a big difference in brilliance; if the vendor told you this, I would not buy from them. How clean the stones are and the cut should affect the brilliance (at the VS and VVS clarity levels). I could understand a difference in brilliance if you were comparing an I2 and VS stone, but both VS and VVS should be quite clean.

The challenge I am having is that I am unable to locate a high quality matching trillion pair sized with a total carat between .6 and .8...I will make some calls but would like to get your feedback on a range...I'm thinking 2.5k to 3.5k for a pair of high quality trillion....thoughts?

Yes- the cut is definitely what has made the difference in terms of brilliance. Have you shopped around???

Just online and I have not seen anything rated as an ideal/excellent...this is tough sine there is no Gia...I would have to see the stones under a scope. It took this jewelry several months to track the stones down. I haved worked with this jewelry for 10 years and I do trust them but I am concerned that the wholesaler or jewelry may be a little greedy this time around. I will call the place that was suggested on this thread. Any idea on how I should price these stones? If I used a .35 to .40 price bride, I grt to 2800 for both. If I use a .7 to .8 grid, I get to 4800. I would imagine that I premium is warranted de to the fact that they are matching...?

I'm not sure why you aren't finding GIA reports on this size stone. GIA does grade diamonds of this size. Can I ask where online you are looking?

Also you can't really get an idea of price by trying to compare trillions to round brilliants. It's apples to oranges. Different shapes are priced differently. I think that your best bet is to contact several online vendors and ask for a quote, that will give you a much better idea of what you should be paying. The initial quote seems very high to me.

EDIT when using the price calculater, make sure that you are pricing for two seperate stones. One larger stone will cost more than two smaller stones of the same weight

Vendors do not generally post sidestone pairs. You have to take the initiative and CALL, trust me. Tell Mark at ERD and Yekutiel at ID you are from Pricescope and want really bright well cut and beautiful trillions and the size (in MM, not in carats) that you are looking for.
