How to Pick Trusted Jewelry to Maintain Your E-Ring

For all those who did not buy a diamond from a store and bought online, how did you go about picking a trusted jeweler that you could trust to periodically take your engagement ring to for cleaning, ensuring the diamond isn''t loose, etc? I personally don''t already have an established relationship with any jeweler so I''d be paranoid to take an expensive diamond some place out of fear of them either switching the diamond, nicking it, scratching it, etc. How do you figure out a place that you can trust?

It''s been on my mind ever since I canceled my purchase at a local jeweler and opted to go with an online PS vendor. I''m not afraid of anyone swapping out my diamonds, because I will know my inclusions like I know my own age spots.

I am more concerned about the lack of service or attention because I didn''t purchase from the local jeweler. I look forward to the responses.

This is an important question. It is a good idea to establish a relationship
with a local and trusted jeweler. Not all are created equal. Ask friends
and family in the area for their opinions. Check with the local Chamber of Commerce
to see if they are members as well as the BBB in your area. The retail business
environment is different these days and my feeling is that any retailer should
bend over backwards to keep their clients happy and to develop new ones.
It''s not important that they know where you bought your ring. Just start
bringing in small repair jobs to get a feel for their quality of work and
how you''re treated. It''s also a good sign if they are members of AGS or Jewelers
