How do I get the most sparkle fire out of a 1ct round diamond...which of the 4 c''s is most important and how much does polish, symmetry play into the equation? The signature cuts i''ve seen (leo, peerless, bluenile signature, etc) sparkled well as did the diamonds at tiffany''s but I want to buy from an independent local jeweler i can negotiate with.

Are there any tools, scopes, ratios, etc I can use to quantitatively evaluate sparkle?

thanks much

Go here and read the tutorials and you will find answers to your questions.

Tiffany''s and other branded diamonds did not invent sparkle and an ideal cut RB that can be had from many vendors on PS will sparkle just as well. Cut is the most important C for this. Search for diamonds on the site above and look at GemEx reports to get an idea of how cut and sparkle relate.

yes, if you want sparkle and fire, it is ALL ABOUT CUT. color and clarity, for the most part will have ZERO effect on how a stone returns light, which is what creates sparkle and fire. you don''t need a branded stone to insure this, you just need to pay attention to what you buy. too bad not every vendor offers helium reports.

The most important C is cut.....always.
The others are personal preference.

Polish and symmetry are important for a number of reasons....it helps with the brilliance of the diamond, it can make the diamond look whiter...etc.

It''s all in the good old gold tutorial that was linked for you. It''s a good read, and can even be funny at times.

Ditto to the above. The cut is what gives you fire and brilliance. I''ll be anxious to see pictures of the finished jewelry.

You will "hard pressed" to beat the diamonds and price of the vendors on Pricescope!!! I know I could not even come close and my ACAs are beautiful and we get compliments all the time.

Example: We went to get our marriage license a few weeks ago and the person behind the counter said, "I see alot of diamonds everyday, but you dont see diamonds like that everyday!!!" She was referring to sparkle and fire of the ACAs.

Good Luck and let us know what you decide

Just my 2 cents: My blue nile signature ideal cut pendant does not even compare to my AGS000 ering stone------and the "signature ideal" scored poorly on the HCA. So from my experience, some of the "branded" cuts do not ensure a knock-your-socks-off diamond. You''ve come to the right place for help and info on finding a stone that will out sparkle most. The HCA is a great tool for weeding through some and then you will need IS and sarin IMO to ensure you''re getting a great performing diamond-----and most brick & moarters won''t offer you that........I tried to find a stone locally and the prices I was finding did not even begin to compete with some of these Pricescope vendors----plus I got the peace of mind of seeing actual images and an upgrade policy that I couldn''t find locally. I could find very poorly cut stones of comparable size for a similar price, but that was the LAST thing I wanted-------WF was wonderful to work with and we found a great stone out of the "virtual" stock that turned out to be a big winner for a great price!
