I purchased a AGS certified diamond a few weeks ago, just waiting to get it shipped.
I am living in Canada, the diamond actually comes with one year insurance included with the purchases (purchased from Winfields/Diamond by Infinity). It is an AGS Ideal 0 Grade.
Sounds like eventually when I have to actually get it insured in Canada I would have to get it appraised anyway (doesn''t sound like some insurance companies will accept certain appraisals from the US), so I have a few questions regarding getting it appraised and making sure I am on the right track, maybe an appraiser or two can give some guidance as well.
When I bring a ring to get appraised, what is the appraiser actually doing? Does he/she have to remove the diamond from the setting? Is it recommended to use an approved appraiser in Canada ( I live in Calgary Alberta ), or are there better appraisers in the US that have international certification? (I am reading some appraisers are recognized both in Canada and the USA).
Also, when I am taking the diamond into the appraiser, do I have to be present to verify the diamond before he/she puts it back in the setting??
Please let me know your thoughts!
Thanks!!
