So I am thinking of a five stone ring for my next project. I am really leaning towards using AVC. Which do you think you can get more finger presence from all stones the same size or graduated?? I really want the biggest bang I can get.

I think that Phoenix has the same size finger as me and she was able to use .50 or slightly larger stones. Now I really prefer more elongageted stones, what do you think the biggest size stones I could use would be on my 4.5 finger? I was thinking around .45ish maybe a little bigger since AVC face up smaller then rounds. If I use all the same size.

If I do graduated I was thinking a center .85, next .45, then.25.

So what is your preference for 5 stones, all the same sizer graduated?

I am doing this for my mother's ring I have five kids.

As always thanks for your advice and opinions.

A few thoughts.

If you have five kids and you do graduated you are going to get questions like "Which one of us is the BIG stone and who are the small stones."

If there is symbolism like that I'd keep all the stones the same size.

Now, I personally wouldn't do AVC's. I just don't think you can appreciate the faceting that small and there is such an upcharge for that melee that I, personally, wouldn't think it's worthwhile.

I would consider standard cushions, EC's, or ovals.

I think if you do a .85 center and then go down to .45's, it may look more like a center stone with side stones as opposed to what I think of as a graduated 5 stone ring. It's a little harder to think of sizes related to AVC's, but my rounds are graduated .25, .20,.17 and it is very subtle. So in my thinking, with AVC's, I might do something like .50, .35-40.,.25. I am really not sure you could fit what you are thinking on your finger! Mine couldn't be much larger and fit right on my size 5.5. But really, with AVC's you really need to see the stones laid out and then get the mm measurement of the widths.

If you were meaning an e-ring with 5 stones like HOT's instead of a 5 stone band, then just forget everything I just said!

(Just saw Gypsy's post. Good point about making all the stones the same. That is almost impossible with AVC's because finding 5 the same size and color in the .40-.50 range will be unlikely.)
