Hi all.. like a lot of other people, this is my first post. I''ve done a lot of research and found the people here very helpful.

I''m planning to get engaged within the next month, and I''m still looking for the right diamond. I''ve seen plenty of stones in B&M stores, but the online prices make it hard for me to go with the B&M. But, the sites, such as WF, GoG, NiceIce don''t seem to have anything in inventory that I''m looking for. Bluenile, however, have many that appear to be ideal for me solely based on numbers. The problem is, I can''t see any of the stones. Wondering how I can decide without buying them all, picking one, then returning the rest of them??

This is what I''m talking about.. all seem very similar.. how can I choose?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ugh, sorry it came out kinda ugly.. came from my excel spreadsheet, and can''t find a way to make it look nicer

It looks like you are looking for round brilliant stones? If so, then the HCA will help you eliminate the not so well cut stones.

Plug all your numbers in, it''ll crunch them and spit out the magic answer.

Anything between 0 and 2 is great although many prefer the HCA score to be between 1 and 2.

Oops, sorry. I''m actually looking for a princess cut.

Okay, for princess cuts, I would stick with diamonds that have AGS certs with AGS0 ratings. That''s the foolproof way of knowing you''ll have a very well cut and sparkly diamond.

Hm, there aren''t many diamonds on bluenile that have AGS certs. Seems like 95% of them are GIA. Do you have any other sites that you''d recommend to find more?

Thanks

Thanks for the recommendations. Nothing on winkjones.. a few on jamesallen, but they''re also all GIA certified. There is a photo on there though, so I''m getting closer :)

For other vendors like JA, GOG, WF and the like, they have a tool called an Idealscope. If the stone is an in-house diamond, they can take a magnified picture of the stone and also use the Idealscope to show the light leakage (or lack of). Lots of red is good (reflected light), some black (contrast) is nice, and you want to have as little white as possible (leakage). So if you can''t get a AGS0 stone, you can use the IScope to narrow your choices on GIA princess stones.

I would not just go by a search online of inventory. Call up GOG or WF and tell them what you are looking for in terms of the diamond and your budget. They will bring diamonds in for you to consider.

I bought a 2.01 princess from BN last month and was very pleased with the stone (and the price). I initially wanted to buy a few and return all but one, however you don''t get your $ back for a while and I was looking to propose asap. Anyway, it appraised well and matched the GIA cert it came with. Worked for me! Good luck....
