My youngest son is ready to buy a pear shaped lab diamond for his wonderful girlfriend and has asked for my help. Are there any ratios or numbers I should be looking for to get a good pear? I would love some advice

I also would like to know. My daughter found a ring she liked yesterday with a pear.
Here's the cert: IGI LG650402974

No real bona fide rules apply to fancy shapes...it is a tedious mission to find a few standouts from the sea of available diamonds out there.

Looks to have a band of bowtie/obstruction right across the belly. Checking prices for other 1ct D VVS2 CVD pear diamonds graded by IGI, this should retail for no more than a a few hundred dollars, in my opinion.

Thanks @DejaWiz, as always!
I will start a new thread once she narrows down her preferences. Today it's ovals. Yesterday was the pears. :wall:

Usually, the shorter fatter pears (with the round end more like a round brilliant) have the best light return but you can find longer
ratios that also work. Unfortunately, its like @DejaWiz stated...lots of hunting to find decent pears (or any fancy cut).

What are the specs he is looking for?
