So...did you know GIA incorporates crown & pavilion data now?
Though this is kinda old hat info, and in my update I used a lot of text to say the same thing...as some of you know, I have signed my posts with the tag line...if you're looking for shopping tips, click here, and it links to a rather dated post that predates this information. I wanted to update it, reviewing implications of the fact that GIA certificates now have this additional information, (thereby allowing HCA application, particularly).
Over the weekend, I did update my original post in the "Diamond Book" portion of Pricescope...(see here, link to original and update both below signature). Primarily, previously, I strongly directed shoppers to shop where they knew they could get crown & pavilion information...and before GIA certs had this info...this did limit the shopping universe. But now, with GIA certed diamonds relatively widely available, a shopper's universe can likewise be more wide, one might think, as well. At least, I wanted to conservatively update this fact. Of course, in practical terms. it is often the case that...the more things change, the more they stay the same...and so, I found in updating my original post, and fleshing out this idea, I found it inevitable to share that...although there are now new reasons that a shopper can feel comfortable to buy locally, there continue to be good reasons to use the internet, as well. In the process, I also give my two cents on valuing certificates, vendors, appraisers, and technology altogether. Like most of what I write, it is probably too long, but hopefully it will be of some use to somebody.
