How strong is your survival instinct?

If I’m alone, I’m like you. But now that I have kids, I think I would try to be tougher for them. You know, to survive so that they can. I may just freeze/panic and be attacked by whatever and die anyway.

Yes, exactly. You do what you need to for your kids.

I have joked about not wanting to be stranded with certain people on a desert island with me, as they may end up being food for me, because they irritate me so much that I would silence them etc...

In reality, I would not commit murder for my own survival. If that person dies and I am in need of food, then why not?

DK :))

Yeah rationally it makes sense. If they are dead anyway and you need food. But somehow, though I want to live, I don't my survival instinct is strong enough to get me past eating human flesh. I have a weak stomach

My survival instinct is very strong! It has been tested out multiple times riding my explosive Arab mare! She would suddenly rodeo buck & bronk if something came up behind us like someone on a bike or another rider. That horse taught me to think clearly under extreme curcumstances & not to freeze in fear. Yes I would eat human flesh if I had to to survive.I could only eat it in tiny little strips, not munch into someone's arm!

This reminds me of the time I was horseback riding on a mountain in Colorado and the horse I was on got spooked by something and went crazy jumping in the air. I remained calm and held on and took control and both the horse and I stayed safe. I am not an experienced equestrian and the lead person was very impressed with how calm I remained. He said if I had panicked I might have been killed as we were in a precarious area on the mountain and I could have fallen far to my death. Not a pleasant thought and fortunately I did remain calm and cool. Somehow.

I think I'm about medium. At some point I'd lay down and die. I tend to freeze when faced with really big stressors.

I think we all have our limits. So yeah if it was worth it to fight I would. And if it became too extreme I wouldn't. There is a point when we have to realize that's it and the good fight is over. Of course none of us are near that point yet and we will get through this challenge. One day at a time. But yeah we all have our breaking point and if there was an apocalypse my first question would be what would life be like and would it be worth surviving and would my loved ones be with me.

I'm pretty sure I could eat *this* woman's flesh. Just because she freaking deserves it. Wouldn't need an apocalypse to do it.

Pull a gun in a department store?? Moron.

I guess I live up to my reputation of eating almost anything, being Chinese!

DK :lol-2:

Yuck, they're probably disease ridden with things that can't be killed by heat. Pass. :lol-2:

I am the worlds worst hospital patient. I get really bad depression there. If for example I got Covid and had to stay for more than 3 days I would prefer to die. Seriously. I would have no will to live. I am also a really picky eater so I would starve before I would consider eating someone else. Or bugs. Or worms. Or someone else who had bugs and worms.

I want to live, honestly I do but my brain just reacts so stupidly in life threatening situations. For example, once my daughter left a cooking pot on the stove, fell asleep and it started to burn. I walk downstairs, half asleep, see all the smoke and walk past my daughter on the couch to investigate the cause of the fire. Why did I not start screaming for everyone to get out?

Another time I got flagged at a gun range by some obviously deranged individual. Did I duck, run and start to scream? No.........I stare at him wondering what on earth does he think he's doing?

The list goes on. In a dangerous situation, I'm a goner. First one to be killed off if I was a character in a horror movie.

OMG yes. I would slow everyone down. I have metal in my leg and cannot even run really. Save yourselves. Save yourselves.
My husband is very resilient. I am more as you write a bit more delicate. Like the princess and the pea. But I can be tough when I need to be. Just not for extended lengths of time as an Apocalypse would necessitate. So yeah, no thanks. :)

Yes! The Princess and the Pea is me too! I'm over here whinging because of a single cat hair embedded in my foot I can't find lmao. I'm definitely getting made fun of right now for it over such a tiny thing.

I have no desire to survive an acopolipse zombie or any other kind

i read that Australian book On the Beach by Neville Shute 4 years ago after watching the movie/mini series a long long time ago
Im so traumatized by the death of the kitten on friday night i just wouldn't survive any kind of tragedy
People in Christchurch still havn't all recovered and moved on yet

when i was in standard 4 which is do long ago its not even called that now the teacher read us that Alive book and then when i was grown up they made it into a movie

But then even watching that movie the miricle on the Hudson i think i would be paralysed with fear

Today i watched the crown and i don't beleave they left out when the Queen got shot at riding in the Trooping of the colour in 1981 - the way she got her horse under control that day shows what a remarkable horseman she is
Once i was riding a freind's horse down the beach and it senced weakness - i just hung on for dear life till it got tired or sick of my screaming
- im told it was only cantering ........

A big no to eatting a human
Or any sort of primate
Or a dolphin or a wale
For that matter i don't eat squid or octopuses
And definatly not a croc or gator
I want the gators and crocs to go on long after us, they deserve to survive more than we do

I only eat vegetarians thank you

I'd say, strong.

I've survived over 60 years ... beating and overcoming some extremely F-ed up sh!t that has killed my 3 older siblings.
My father should NOT have had kids.

I think I have a strong will to survive, but I don’t think I could ever eat human flesh. I’m one of those people who doesn’t like a lot of foods, and I absolutely know even if I was starving, I couldn’t eat them. People always say “if you were hungry enough”, but I have a very strong gag reflex, and if I put anything in my mouth that I didn’t like the smell or thought of, I’d probably puke and as that’d be more damaging than eating grass or roots.

I've watched TWD, FTWD, and enough zombie apocalypse shows that I feel like I could survive for a while... unless I had to run fast. Then I'd be a goner. #slow #fatkid

Hmmmm I like to think I have a fairly strong survival instinct, especially for family. I would pretty much do anything to ensure my nieces & nephews survived, including eating human flesh.

Let me add, I am chonky (to use polite cat terms). I would probably live a long time off my storage capacity. I could probably sip water for a while and live off my hips...unless you all decided to kill the fat one.

Somewhat related, I just saw an episode of a Netflix show, where a guy turned an abandoned army bunker into a "luxury" survival bunker.

The bunker was suppose to shelter 24 people, with TWO toilets (and no mention of an air filtration system).

I was rolling my eyes so hard because the guy kept harping on about the "luxury" aspect of the bunker.

24 people sharing 2 compost toilets would not be my idea of "surviving in luxury", lol.

And it was in the desolate, middle of nowhere!! Of course there was no mention of any kind of plan or system to get all the food, fuel, and other essential supplies to the bunker for 24 people for 1 year when sh*t did hit the fan.
