How should I go about selling an uncertified diamond?

Hello! I recently was given a loose diamond from a family member and now I want to sell it! I've been doing a little research but I really don't know much about it still. Is the diamond an average size? Can I take it too a jeweler to see if its actually real first? Also I understand that there's a lot of variables that can determine the price of it but any estimates on how much its worth? I looked up a size chart and I think its .50 carats. Anything will help. Thanks!^_^image1.jpgimage0.pngsorry for weird format

I would take it to a local GIA appraiser for guidance.

Take it to an independent appraiser to make sure it's real.

Pawnshops and most non-chain jewelry shops around me will weigh and give you their opinion of color/clarity. Of course, they may not be experts and may be biased with an attempt at a low ball offer. At least you'll find out if its real and the weight should be correct.

At that point, you can decide if you want to pay for an appraisal. An appraisal may eat up half its value depending on where you live.

The problem after that is where or to whom do you hope to sell it? Not sure what you mean by is it an average size?
