I've been lurking for a couple weeks now - first let me say thanks to all of you who have been contributors to this great forum over the years.... what a wealth of insight! I just pulled the trigger on a diamond through Bluenile... here are the stats:

.92 carat round brilliant / I color / VS2 clarity / Very Good cut / 6.29 x 6.36 x 3.80 / Good polish / Excellent symmetry / Thin-Medium girdle / Pavilion angle: 40.8 / Crown angle: 33.5 / Depth %: 60.1 / Table %: 58 / no culet / no flourescence

I've had it narrowed down to 5-6 stones for the last 3 days, racking my brain over this engagement ring purchase... the above stone was one of two that scored Excellent on all four HCA qualifiers. I recall someone saying how they had never seen an "all-excellent" HCA score, but I can't imagine that it's SO rare... or is it? Anyway, since this is a sight-unseen purchase, I placed more weight on the very high HCA score and VS2 clarity over color grade and cut... figuring the excellent symmetry would be an "equalizer" of sorts... lol wtf do I know! I paid $3,640 for this stone, and $700 for a nice platinum solitaire setting.

Hey, it's <1 carat - i don't expect ooohs & ahhs from you guys... but I would love to hear any positive and/or negative thoughts regarding the quality-to-value ratio for this diamond (and your take on All-Excellent HCA scores!)

Thx in advance,

ML

"Go to cut quality search you will see many score all ex`s"

I did a search of all stones between G-I color // VS1-SI1 // .80 - 2.0 carats. Of the 200 or so stones listed in this search, I saw maybe 10 HCA scores of ex-ex-ex-ex... the only comparable one to mine is a .82 H SI1 - the others are at least $1,000 more than what I paid! If 5% isn''t considered rare, maybe "uncommon" is a better term...

In any event, I need to get this diamond professionally inspected once I receive it. I look forward to taking some pics and sharing!
