How old is too old to wear a bikini?

Swimsuit time is here. I wonder if anyone has thoughts on suits. Are bikinis only for the 35 and under? I'm wondering.....does it look silly above a certain age?

when you look in the mirror and think "uh, that's not OK."

Basically if you think you rock it, rock it.

that said, I'm talking about a "regular" bikini...not an itsy bitsy one.

And 35? LOL...

No specific age... Jennifer Aniston is 43 and looks better than I do in a bikini!

If you feel comfortable in a bikini, wear it.

I think it depends on what your body looks like! I have seen older women that looked great in 2 pieces and ones that certainly should not be wearing them but do.

If you don't feel comfortable in one, then I guess it means you shouldn't wear one regardless of how you look.

I think this exactly. I don't swim, I don't own a suit at all, really, and maybe if I was bangin' in the bod dept I might rock a two piece but I don't even think at my fittest I wanted a 2 piece anything. If for no other reason than wardrobe malfunctions.

You look fabulous Beacon, you should!!

When we were in Germany we went to a beautiful lake with some friends. We saw women of all shapes and sizes in bathing suits including bikinis. A lot of them were "too old" or "too fat" for them, but they looked like they were having a great time. I really admired their attitude. I think people spend too much time judging others, and worrying about being judged. Life is short. Have a good time, enjoy yourself and feel comfortable in your own skin. If other people have a problem with that it is just that, their problem. If you feel good in it, I say wear it and have fun!

As long as it covers...stuff...

There is no age! Or weight, for that matter, IMO.

I was at the beach once feeling a little self conscious (what can I say-I'm vain!), and I saw a women much bigger than me frolicking around in a bikini that was much smaller than mine. I was like "I CAN RESPECT THAT." Because who cares?! You're at the beach, not a formal party! Wear what you want.

Hi Beacon :wavey:

Two of my girlfriends are my age 62. They both wear bikinis. They both have the body of a 20 year old too. Not once ounce of fat on either one of them. They rock and look wonderful.

i'll be the judge after you ladies post some pics... :naughty:... SMTBoobs... :naughty:

I used to think there was a cutoff age for bikinis or a size but I have changed my mind. Last vacation at a resort in Mexico I saw all ages and sizes in bikinis. Around age 30 I starting wearing a one piece. In the last couple of years I went from a size 14 to a size 4 by watching everything I eat an working out alot so I thought screw it, if they can wear one so can I. I just bought my first bikini in 22 years! :cheeky: :cheeky: Okay I haven't worn it yet but I am taking it on my next vacation. Life is too short to give a crap what other people think especially on the beach when you are on vacation!

No age limit. Depends on body type and comfort level of the person wearing the bathing suit. I've seen some things I would rather not have. But it wasn't a function of age.

I wish my mom stopped wearing them sooner. I had some friends over and she came downstairs IN A BIKINI (we had a pool.. well, they have a pool) and my guy friend STILL calls her milf (we were all early twenties, she wasn't walking around teenagers like that)

But otherwise, she can wear them until she's 95!

When I was a teenager and in my really early 20's (I'm 24 now) I wore them. But even the past 2 summers (I'm now expecting) when I was still 5'6" at 108lbs and busty I stopped feeling comfortable in a bikini. I just don't like having that much skin exposed and don't care if ones that cover you up aren't "fashionable"-I've searched high and low for conservative swimsuits with out much luck. I have found one lady who makes maternity swim suits and regular ones-but they aren't free (not bad for custom though). I'm very pale and I burn easily and I don't like the girls hanging all out there and how small the bottoms are-even maternity swim suits (unless you get a skirt but sometimes even then) they are pretty small. I've seen some tankini's but many of the tops still are low cut and the bottoms are small.
I'm attaching a picture (and the link to her shop) for her cute maternity swim suit (I actually did get the bottoms-hoping I could find a top that would work. We shall find out this weekend if I can find one or if I should have just bit the bullet and ordered one from her)

Here is her etsy shop

Vintagelover, your post resonates with today's wall street journal which had a big article on the new retro suits and how they are more covered up than in past years.

I love the comments everyone posted (well DF, maybe yours was an execption ;)). Very empowering and lots of different views. Nice to see that some very mature women are still pulling off the look with style!

HI:

My DH INSISTS I wear them....and gosh I hate to disappoint

cheers--Sharon

I'd say, when you no longer need the top.

Kenny!

In some ways, I think a nice solid color one piece suit is THE most flattering look for someone with a good figure. My 16 year old wears bikinis, of course, but she needed a 1 piece for camp. So we went to buy her a cheap one just for that purpose, and when she opened the dressing room door with the black swimsuit on, I thought, gosh, she looks fantastic in that!

So I am one who does not think a bikini is more flattering to a great body than a one piece.

(And I am not in favor of myself going out in public with either, at the moment! ;( )

Funny, Kenny.

That reminded me - I've noticed in the past that one piece suits frequently were less expensive than bikinis. You have to pay more money for less material. Wait, what?!

It's all what your frame of mind is and how comfortable you are... I don't think there is an experation date so to speak. My Daughter is 24 and we share bathing suits from time to time. The difference is I wear a cover up... I am 50, and I think I have a nice body but that is only for my husband to see , and my kids who are adults.. I would no more prance around in a bikini than fly.... I am super super into modesty...

I totally agree with this. If you feel comfortable in wearing one go ahead and wear it! It's all about attitude and to heck with what others think!
