Oh, good point! He said he''d had it for little over a year.... He said that he''d take the price of the setting down to 4900 from 7800..... He''s a really nice guy with a family run business that has a stellar reputation. He is getting some diamonds together for me to look at Friday when my DH gets back into town. It was a beautiful setting but because this is a "forever" piece, I want to make sure it''s exactly right...

What one did you finally decide on?

I don''t mean to hijack the thread...I was wondering if someone knew of a reputable jeweler to take my ring for cleaning/check up in the DC area? My ring was custom made for me, from Philly, and it''s quite a drive just to get it professionally cleaned/check up on. My impression has been that the service isn''t a big deal.

I had a really hard time finding a jeweler willing to do it in the DC area, even when I offered to pay for it (I won''t name the jewelers, but I went to a few in downtown DC near where I work and was refused).

Thanks in advance!
SuLi,

First of all...if you do have success, let me know; I''m here, too, with a similar need.

I am surprised you''ve had a hard time. I would have thought that if we did what you did, we''d get help. A couple of ideas:

1) Not sure exactly where you are...if you regard it as not too inconvenient, Quest Jewelers in Northern Virginia is mentioned all the time for this area for either light or heavy duty work. They would surely help, and are a lot closer than Philly.

2) In DC, Charles Schwartz has a couple of locations you can check out, and I''d hope would help.

3) Here''s a big list, including Charles Schwartz, and many more.

Regards,

Thank you so much for your advice! I will check them out and let you know what my results are. I was very surprised myself how unwilling some of these stores have been. I am also shopping around for some wedding bands, and already know that I will not be going through those particular stores.
