How often do you clean your bling?

I wear some jewellery everyday. Certainly my wedding set, diamond studs & 2 DBTY bracelets that I literally only remove for cleaning - those 2 in particular get showered & slept in

How often do you clean your jewellery & how do you keep it looking nice? I have read some comments here in the past about ladies removing jewellery as soon as they're at home, for hand washing, chores etc. My sister in law literally never removes her studs, pendant & full eternity wedding ring, but they constantly sparkle like mad. When she is at my house she'll pop them in my ultrasonic, but that would be one of the few times she's taken them all off.

I try to avoid getting soap on my rings & remove everything except the DBTY's at night, but I'd love to be one of those ladies who slept in everything & it still looked showroom good. On the few occasions when I have, such as staying elsewhere overnight or being on holiday, I've felt they looked cloudy & needed to be cleaned asap. I'm sure it must be in my head??!

When I first met my husband & started staying away overnight lots, I never took things off & it always seemed to look good. Currently I use an old baby toothbrush with washing up liquid & then pop them in the ultrasonic twice a week. Are there any pots of cleaning solution I could maybe buy to pop in the bathroom, so I could put everything in for a quick soak when I shower?

PSer's rule is "everyday" for an Ering.. ;))

That sounds about right.

I'm a bad PSer. All of my jewelry gets cleaned around once/week - not at a set time, just whenever I think of it and am not in a phenomenal rush to be somewhere else.

Everyday???
Gosh, I'm a bit cr@p in that case! Perhaps it would be more acceptable to never take things off if I cleaned them properly every morning

Super cleaning every week, good cleaning every morning and night when I wear them.

When I first got engaged, I used to clean my ring every day in a jar of store-bought jewelry cleaner and once a week in a mix of hot water, Dawn dish soap, and Windex.

I've been married almost six months now and I'm down to about once a week (sometimes once every two weeks) in the store-bought cleaner.

About once a month. I shower and sleep in them too. Somebody shoot me! :errrr:

Once or twice a day.

Tensions settings show more of the diamond, which means they show more of the dirt.
Also, cleaning a tension set diamond is easy and takes just 30 seconds, and when I loupe it it looks like it was professionally cleaned.

Before Ultrasonic, once a week. (Bowl of warm water + toothbrush + Dawn)

After purchasing Ultrasonic, every other day! :D Love, love, love using it. My stuff has never looked better!

I work from home so mine only get cleaned if I go out somewhere, which is usually about once a week, ultrasonic is probably down to every couple of months..but I do not wear them during the week unless I go somewhere. I just wear a simple gold band..but when I was going in to the office every day I cleaned them every morning, I would get up turn on coffee and take off rings and drop them in the cleaner and then scrub them when I am getting ready to leave...I like my rings to shine...

Every day. If not, the second day. A full steam cleaning about once a week or two. I do not pay $$$ for them to look like cheap simulants! Must clean!!!!

I clean mine about every week or two... I probably should do it more. Things that get worn less get cleaned after they've been worn about 10 times.

Every other week or so. They look so fabulous after their US bath!

Every morning for the ering & diamond band. I put them in the jar of store bought cleaner while I get my myself pulled together and put them on right before I leave for work. Rings are removed for housework and sleeping. Studs are worn about two weeks straight without cleaning. I sleep and shower in those. All jewelry is steamed twice a month on Sunday mornings.

Thanks ladies! I am motivated this morning. They got scrubbed with a toothbrush & left to soak in washing up liquid whilst I got the children dressed, and l've just popped them into the ultrasonic now to finish off on a long cycle. Even my scungy DBTY's

What is a steam cleaner? This has passed me by. Better than US or the same finish?

I think theyre talking about the Jewel Jet: it uses high pressurised steam to clean, same way lots of jewellers clean although they seem to have industrial size cleaners. I think they work better than US, I can't find one to buy in the UK though!

Interesting - thanks Rosetta :))
I did wonder why on the few occasions my eternity has been cleaned at the jewelers it comes back GLEAMING & I can never quite get it like that at home. It has a kind of closed cage underneath with solid sides, so its really difficult to get in to the back of the stones. Will check out the steam thing. Maybe a relative in the US could ship us both one over :sun:

My ering gets cleaned daily with a soft brush and liquid soap and sometimes a quick alcohol bath. My necklace and earrings are cleaned when I remember to do it.

Not very often. But the weird thing is I swear they just don't get dirty!

Maybe once a week or so. Depends. If I have time in the AM before work I ask my dh to clean my rings. He does it with a toothbrush and dish soap I think. But usually I have no time before work so I have him clean my ring on the weekend. He does a better job than I can LOL. I used to have an ultrasonic cleaner but it broke and honestly it was a pain to use so I rarely did. My ring looks good even when it's not freshly cleaned so it doesn't bother me. Once a week is enough unless I get lotion all over it or something. I'm lazy. Even about asking my dh to clean it. How lazy is that? :cheeky:

Laila - I wish mine didn't get dirty! They get cloudy & less sparkly really easily :((

Missy - if I asked my husband to clean them he wouldn't know where to start

Every day. I soak them in windex mixture. A few times a month they get zapped with the jewel jet.

whenever I shower ,I throw my rings, pendant, studs in the jewelry cleaner for a 10 minute soak (Connoisseurs ,from Walmart ) .I have a small medicine cup into which I pour the solution so not to dirty the whole bottle . I make sure the sink stopper is closed though .once my ring slipped down the drain ,but I opened the pipe underneath the sink and got it out . my diamonds are pretty shiny due to the almost daily cleanings ,although I wear them 24/7 .
once a week or two ,I soak them in boiling hot water & dish washing liquid for 1/2 an hour ,then clean with a baby tooth brush . makes them sparkle like mad !
I am afraid to use the Ultrasonic in case it shakes loose my diamonds !

while traveling I keep alcohol swabs in my bag . I clean the diamonds with them without taking my jewelry off . makes the body oil/grime go away instantly .

if they were that loose then you shouldn't be wearing them... ::)

I put mine in the jar of jewelry cleaner about once a week. I use the ultrasonic maybe once a month. But I don't put things with pave in there. I keep my jewelry clean because I don't get lotion on the rings or do dishes or things like that with them on.

I clean my OEC every day - I soak it in a mixture of hot water and windex while I shower, then gently clean it with a soft toothbrush and rinse with rubbing alcohol. If I'm in a rush I'll just spritz it with some windex and rinse. It's an old cut and I notice that the facet pattern is much crisper if I keep it really clean. I clean my earrings every couple of days the same way.

I've read here on PS you shouldn't soak 14k white gold in an ammonia solution for a long time because it can affect the rhodium plating.
