How often do you change your bedsheets?

huh - you guys are a lot more regular about it!! I have gone 2-3 weeks before, but I''ve also only gone a day or two. It totally depends on so many factors... as soon as my period is over I want CLEAN sheets even if I just put them on the day before.

I am SUPER picky about having the bottom sheet totally tucked in and tight and flat and if it feels gross (even mentally) I have to change it. But sometimes there are long stretches too...

I''m glad to see so many people go a week or two - I have known some people who change them daily and put up their nose ''ew so gross'' if you don''t. I am not one of those poeple lol

I think I was them less in the summer because we''re move likely to take a shower before bed. But still, so many factors go into it, I can''t have a set schedule.

Oh - and all of this said the cleaning people here at this service apartment change them 3x a week (mwf) right now lol

Once a week. I''m not home a lot during the week, so my side stays fresh!!!! Is that evil? DH gunks up his side allllll week.

Every 5 to 7 days. I wash them in hot water.
ditto. And pillow cases more frequently.
Yep, the best thing is to buy an extra set of matching pillow cases so they can be changed every other day (and then everything gets washed at the same time). Better on the face as all the oils from hair don't get transferred.

Every 2 to 3 weeks since I don''t have a machine and not enough sheets to keep changing mine through. I need to buy more sheets...

I need more sheets too. We only have one set since we upgraded to a king size and I spent all my money on a cute comfortable. Plus, I have to keep up bedding for the kids. They each have two sets, plus three sets of comforters.

Laundry. . .laundry. . .laundry. It''s a never ending job!

Once a week, with pillowcases usually twice a week. I am not much of a housekeeper, but I do love having clean, fresh-smelling sheets and towels and pajamas. It makes me sleep better!

Once a week, every Saturday on laundry day!

It seems that we're about the "norm", thank God for that, though it looks like we'll have to change our pillow cases more often.

Some of you change your sheets every day or every two-three days!! How do you do that? The washing and drying take forever! I'd love to change ours more often since I have an allergy reaction to dust and I'm sure soiled bedsheets contribute to that (though we don't even let our cat anywhere near our bed).

Whitby, your friends with the sheets unchanged for months - seriously?!! That is so GROSS!!

Someone mentioned showering/ taking a bath before going to bed. We do that. It's actually our routine everday, regardless of the weather, to shower twice a day, once in the morning before going out and once at bedtime. I seriously cannot go to sleep without having washed first - it's so ingrained in me now. DH has to be persuaded sometimes 'cos he complains he's too tired from work and/ or too cold or whatever excuses he has - but I usually insist!!

Most of you seem to wash your comforter, blankets in addition to the covers. I'd like to ask how you do that? Ours is a king-sized and I don't think it can be washed (w/m not big enough) or will ever dry. How long does it take you to wash and dry yours? We've considered dry-cleaning but am also allergic to the chemicals they use. We just change our comforters every six months or at most a year, ie. buying new ones and tossing out old ones, which I know is very wasteful, which is why I'd LOVE to know how to wash and dry them.

couple things phoenix - you probably have an asian/european sized washer/dryer and not an american sized one that WILL fit a king sized comforter.

And for me the dog on the bed thing - I honestly would rather sleep in my own unwashed sheets for 2 months than even one night where a dog has stood lol They stand in their poop!!!!!!

Whitby- I can do worse than that. When I lived in student halls, we all had single bedrooms with signle beds. This girl moved her boyfriend in on the first night in September, and did not wash her sheets ALL academic year. September to May without washing. They got up to ahem "stuff" in their bed (we could all hear), and still didn''t clean the sheets. Two of them in the single bed. Now that is wrong.

SL, EWWWWWW!! That is seriously horribly the GROSSIEST thing I've ever heard!!

The washing and drying really doesn''t take long at all, it''s the ironing that does me in. I''ve bought six sets of new sheets in the last eighteen months to fit our new deep mattress set. All of my sheets now are 100% cotton, mostly sateen, and definitely need to be ironed before they go onto the bed. The ironing takes a good 45 mins. each time.

I send all of my bed coverings- comforters, matelasse''s etc to the dry cleaner. They come back in perfect condition. We use a "green dry cleaner" who doesn''t use chemicals.

that is an ugly, ugly image.

the pair i knew ultimately divorced, and she is no doubt the same. he, on the other hand, now strips his bed every week, and makes his kids do the same. he's a great dad. :)

hi phoenix :)

i send out my blankets (wool) and my quilt to be dry-cleaned about once a month. this is expensive, but i like things *clean*. i dont have a comforter - just blankets and quilts, and a woolen blanket will shrink if it goes through the machine, so it has to be done professionally. i also have a fleece blanket which i keep at all times over the bed. this *will* fit in the washing machine, doesn't shrink, and it's washed about twice a week. it protects pretty much everything and does a good job of keeping things fresh. i dont sleep under it - it's just on the bed during the day so the dogs can't touch the blankets/quilt etc as easily. re time - i do a couple of loads most days - half an hour in the washer, 1.5 hours in the dryer. i do it first thing in the morning - and it's no biggie.

and cehrabehra - my dogs don't stand in poop! gees! my back yard is in 2 halves - front half cobblestone. that's where the dogs are, so it's a hard, clean surface. and we pick *up* the poop! while i dont think their paws are pristine, i think i've taken more than sufficient measure to make sure they cant cause too many problems. it's not ideal, but it's' not bad either! they dont get IN the bed with us! (they actually have their own little memory foam beds

)

but i wouldnt care if they did; i luuuurve them.

you guys meaning me? haha remember - I am in china with a washer just like yours lol

and whitby - it really isn''t about your dog or what your dog stands in - it is the image in my head of having any dog (or cat) in MY bed! Just the oogy ick factor of slopping around in my own fermenting sweat and dead skin cells for months on end seems the better choice lol (it''s a mental thing, I''m sure lol)

Oh wow!! You iron them? I have an intense dislike for ironing - anything!! I just hang my sheets out and stretch them, in the hope that they don't end up being too wrinkled, ha ha!!

(As an aside, I tend to buy clothes that they don't need ironing or dry-cleaning, LOL).

"Green dry cleaner"? That's a great idea. I'm wondering if there's one in Shanghai (?). Worth checking out though. Thanks for the tip. I feel icky for not being able to wash or dry-clean our comforter, even if I change the covers regularly.

Thanks for replying again, Whitby.

Thanks also for your compliment about the earings!

Ha ha, I was going to write "you Americans" but generally I don't really like saying things like "you people", or "you PS'ers" though I am sure I've used them in the past.

I don't know why the w/m in China are so tiny!! Ours in Singapore and Hong Kong were not as bad. I have to do so many loads here, at least one every day and there're only two of us, DH and I (or rather three, if you count the cat, LOL). Hey, do your appliances make those horrible sounds when they finish? Ours, including microwave, w/m, oven etc. make this horrible noise and it really bugs me!! I've tried to turn off the sound but have not been very successful.

Actually, going back to the size thing, one of my friends here has a super-duper American w/m AND an equally big dryer too. I must make a mental note to ask her where she got them.

the washer and dryer are actually not super bad... could be worse... but not as big as in america.

I''m not sure about the appliance noise you refer to - I do know that our microwave has the most lovely little sing song bell - totally not the american buzz and the one that really gets me is the stove - it''s some kind of weird burner system (no idea how it really works - i wing it) that hums at different tones depending on how high the temperature is. Sometimes I don''t notice but sometimes it''s like nails on a chalkboard. And when I have to turn the heat up or down and the music note changes, it cracks me up and irritates me at the same time lol

I wish I understood it though - I think I understand the right burner more than the left - they''re definitely different from each other and way different than I''m used to . If you don''t mind the threadjack maybe I''ll post a pic and someone who can read chinese can tell me lol

Would you mind if I asked you what makes are your washer and dryer? And do you have a dishwasher too? Our d/w is the teeniest tiniest one I've *ever* seen!! I can also stock about 2 plates, a chopping board and about 10-12 glassses or cups and it's completely full!! And the worst thing is because it's a Chinese brand, it can't take dinner plates (I'd guess it's because you're only expected to put rice bowls into it) and we eat with plates and big bowls everyday. I am too impatient to eat out of dainty little rice bowls, LOL!! Oh and the d/w also makes a beeping noise (not music - though I think that would irk me too, LOL)!!

No, threadjack away!! Post a pic of it. DH can read Chinese. It'd be interesting to see what it says. Your burner sounds really bizarre!! Only in China, ha ha!!

There're so many things here that we're not so used to and just to think we've lived in Asia now for about 15-18 years! I can't imagine what it must be like for you to come here from the US. I'll bet it's a bit of a culture shock.

I don''t actually have my own washer and dryer *yet* but I will take one of the public room that has ones identical to the ones in the apartments here. We are still in our temporary housing and moving in has been delayed. Our townhouse has a different brand - I think I got a photo of that too... let me go see what I have and take some photos of the stuff in this place.

My oven is 16" x 15". Ouchie.

That's like an oven for dolls!!

I forgot that you mentioned you're still in temporary accomodation. If I may suggest, I'd make sure that you take a good look at all the appliances, as well as everything else (like plumbing and electrical - I could share more details if you'd like) and check them out to see if they work properly before you move into your townhouse.

I'm sorry your move has been delayed. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

The oven is seriously small - and the worst part is that I have nothing that fits it. I bought some stuff in Ireland but tossed it and they don''t even SELL stuff for the oven here - no one has ovens!!!! They have ovens at ikea but the concept is so new they don''t actually sell cookware - like cookie sheets lol I finally DID find a pizza sheet that I used to make cookies last week and to bake a fish today (the tail hung off lmao)

Some people moved in and had to move back out because of smells - did I mention that? Ugh I''m losing my mind lol Share away any info you have!!

Okay here are some pics - First is the washing machine - I can''t read it but I wing it lol

ceh01.jpg

This is the dryer and the lovely note that had to be added. Oh the joys - I haven''t had to share a washer/dryer for... 17 years? ::sigh:: at least I don''t have to pay for it lol

ceh02.jpg

fridge - it''s even smaller than what we had in europe... but the fridge we''ll have at our townhouse is a full sized american side by side. Can''t wait!!!

ceh03.jpg

outside of the dishwasher... so tiny!

ceh04.jpg

inside of the dishwasher - I''ve never had one so small.... unless I didn''t have one at all lol

The dishwasher at our townhouse is going to be bigger... I think I even took a pic of that but I have those on FB and I''ll have to look to see what I can find.

ceh05.jpg

okay this picture is photoshopped to save space.... the top row is the LEFT burner and the bottom row is the RIGHT burner... I only have 2 burners (and will only have 2 burners at the townhouse but they''re gas and I love gas - these are weird... and I *think* the brand is Midea) The burner says Hegon but the middle of the stove says Midea.
