Ladies ?????

Are you happy with your purse usage or do you wish you didn't 'have to' carry one?
Alternatively, do you do leave it at home but wish you had it with you more?

Ha. I've been trying to use one less. I bought a cell phone case that can hold up to 3 cards, so lately I have been putting my debit card and license in my phone case and just putting that in my pocket.

I always have a purse with me except when I go to the gym. I frequently change purses to match my outfit though; I probably average 4 different purses a week!

I always carry a purse.

I got my purse stolen out of shopping cart around 13 years ago, I no longer carry a purse in public, once in a great while I will have my purse but for the most part I dont...it was very traumatic when mine got stolen, it was sitting right next to my son in the cart..he was a little thing and he was sitting in the front of the cart...the only good thing is I got most everything back and at the time I had my keys in my hand and I was on my cell phone, so they didnt get either of those and I was able to call my husband who immediately started calling on the cards to cancel them. My advice to anyone carrying a purse in public, NEVER leave your purse unattended for even a few seconds.

I normally carry one. I use a man's wallet and have a minimum amount of cards in it and carry my wallet, mobile phone, key ring with 5 keys, loupe, small notebook, and kindle what would be considered to be a small handbag. Women's clothing doesn't have big enough pockets to regularly be without a handbag. I can't fit my wallet into my jeans, much less suit trousers. My phone barely fits and I can't comfortably sit with it in my pocket. I find that if I don't carry a handbag I sit my phone and wallet on the table or in my lap and I'm always concerned that someone will take it more easily or I'll accidentally leave it behind.

I love the idea of having a place to put the few things I carry, but in reality, I don't want to carry a purse all the time. Sometimes I just stick my license, a few cards, and my phone in my pocket when I go out.

I'm never without one. I have to carry my wallet, keys, phone, umbrella (this is the UK!) resus mask and professional ID everywhere.

i was getting back pain from mine and resented being a woman and having to carry one all the time. no matter my intentions any bag i used would fill up with stuff. heavy, rarely used stuff. until i got a small crossbody bag and now i'm a total convert.

i can only ever put in it phone, keys, cards and cash, small flat bottle of perfume. I'm so much happier now although sometimes if i'm going out with my partner i just put my phone in my bum pocket and leave the bag home! feels great not being weighed down. I've since bought one even smaller :P

Mine depends on where and who's going with me. If I'm by myself, I'll often only carry my "wallet" that is a wristlet that has the important things in it. If I'm going with the family, or where I think I'll need more things, I'll bring my purse. My purse has the mini first aid kit as well as all the meds I (or those with me) may need. Yes, the family makes fun of me with my purse, but who do they ask if they need something?? ME! ;) With three kids, you have to be prepared. :D

Hardly ever anymore. I have a few different small crossbody bags, one being really small that the long strap clicks off and it can be used as a wristlet. One is the Baggalini everyday bag, and it holds a ton of stuff, has zip around spot for cash/change/credit cards etc on the front and lots of room inside. I carry that pretty much all the time anymore. The kids are old enough now I don't have to drag as much w/me. Part of switching to a crossbody was b/c I hate having the straps fall off my shoulder when I'm looking at stuff.

I virtually never carry one, unless you count the wristlet I carry with just my phone, credit cards, cash and keys, and that only when I am not wearing jeans or a sweater with pockets that I can simply put stuff in. I do bring a larger bag to work every day, but that's typically got an umbrella, my lunch, etc., so not really a "purse."

Always carry one unless I'm hiking or messing around outside. Wish I didn't have to -- I'd love to have pockets like a man! But where would I put my cellphone, wallet, credit card & license case, glasses, makeup, hairbrush, and the collar I took off my Buck just before he died?

I hate purses and never carry one unless I am required to wear a dress without pockets for a dinner function. My wallet holds my cash and other cards. My phone and keys go into my pockets (I only buy clothes with very deep pockets) and I don't need to carry anything else.

I hate purses, too. I'm not one who collects numerous handbags and spends thousands on them. Last winter, I bought my first cross-body bag and I LOVE it. It fits what I need: wallet, cell phone, pack of gum, pen, & a few other items. I regret that I bought my summer bags in larger sizes...now I wish I had purchased a small pink cross-over bag. My next bag purchase will be a black leather Coach cross-over.

ETA - I do a lot of traveling about and use to think keeping bottles of water in my purse was a must-do, but then I realized it's easier to put a cooler w/some ice packs in the back of my car and just grab a bottle when needed. I also have my umbrella & other items in my car...if I took public transport, I'd probably just use a back pack! I saw a really cute one in the Nordstrom catalogue...

I'd vote, but "Why do you ask?" is not one of the choices in the poll.

Sometimes I use a fanny pack, or if it's winter, I put essentials in the coat pockets if I'm just going to the store or gas station.

Always when I go to work and rarely when I go out with my dh as I just give him my lip gloss and phone to put in his pockets and I'm good to go. However if I go out without him I take one to hold my wallet and my phone, my keys and a few other esssentials. I love handbags in theory and have quite a few (way too many!) but in reality I prefer being free and unencumbered. :))

ETA: I'm with MC...crossbody bags are the way to go. Very easy.

I understand exactly how you feel. I'm so sorry you experienced this.
A long time ago I put my pocketbook on the floor at a restaurant when I was on a date (I never did that again btw-lesson learned plus gross germs. Not sure what I was thinking but I was in my early 20's so...) and when we got up to leave it was gone. It was very traumatic for me because I never had anything stolen before and mainly because it was my grandmother's bag and she had died recently. I was so sad that bag was gone and it was very upsetting. I didn't have much in it. I didn't have a mobile phone at the time and I had no money or credit cards with me (I was on a date after all lol) but my keys were in there as was a lip gloss. That was all I lost but the theft of the pocketbook really hurt. Lesson learned and I never leave my pocketbook out of my sight when I have one with me.

I could not leave the house without my pocket book, which is the size of a beach bag. In it is everything I will use during the day as if I was home. For me going minimal is when dining out with my husband I only carry a small evening bag.

I used to. Now, I can't be bothered to lug it around. If it doesn't fit in my pocket, I don't take it out. Only exception is when I need stuff for work, files and so on - then I have a satchel.

I always carry a purse, and wonder daily why the "man-purse" has not caught on yet, because my husband is constantly handing his stuff to me to put in my purse. His car keys, his wallet (so he doesn't have to sit lopsided), his camera (he likes taking snaphots of every event, his electronics. The kids also "use" my purse....any fliers they receive, invites, toys and whatnot. My purse acts as a carry-all for the whole family, I cannot imagine leaving home without one.

lol - Your husband carries your lip gloss. That is funny. I've been with my DH for many years (don't want to date myself by admitting how many) and he's yet to have carried my lip gloss. I'm going to have to ask him just to see what he says. He probably will freak out or loose it. I better buy a chap stick to use for the test...if he lost my fav glossimer, he'd be up the creek! :cheeky:

MC, I just got a cross-body Coach purse (this one: http://www.coach.com/online/handbags/Product-legacy_swingpack_in_signature_fabric-10551-10051-48452-en?cs=svbsa&catId=5000000000000015027&navCatId=62), except mine has a horizontal stripe in dark brown, not the vertical stripe shown. The strap is dark brown, too.)

It's not something I would have chosen for myself (I prefer plain, non-patterned bags), but it's the perfect size. There are a lot of really pretty bags on Coach's site.

Those ones are really nice! The one I got that converted me has the same C fabric and I just check the Coach site and it's not there and then made the mistake of checking the Macy's site (there are some bags on sale! ah...should not have looked :cheeky: )! Mine has silver/gray fabric with black Cs and black fabric stripe. I love it...the only problem is the fabric clashes with some of my shirts, so that is why I have to get a plain black leather one. lol So, yeah, I agree that normally it's better to have plain, non-patterned...but sometimes it's fun to go a bit wild.

There needs to be men purses. My Dh sent me a text a few hours ago asking if I had a non-girly tote/bag he could borrow. Huh?

Yes except when on vacation, then my husband carries it LOL. We put everything into a Longchamps bag (his sunglasses, my sunglasses, his wallet, my wallet, etc. etc.). A Longchamp bag is nylon bag with leather trim and a zipper and I bought a black one with brown leather trim so it doesn't look too girly because he is carrying it.

Since our first vacation together we have done this (before we used a nylon cross body bag).

It is so nice to walk around on vacation without a purse. When we purchase stuff (as I always end up doing), we put it in the bag and he carries everything! A bottle of Lemoncello or Tequila is very heavy :cheeky:

If I'm carrying anything heavy, my husband carries it in his man bag ie a messenger bag like a large cross body bag.

Mind you, there have been times when my large handbag has become heavy and he will think nothing of taking it off me and carrying it himself. I once asked him if it made him uncomfortable and he replied "why? Isn't it obvious by us walking together that I'm just carrying your oversized bag for you? I doubt anyone will think this is mine!" Can't argue with that!

MC, when we "go out" which is like...well, not ever anymore, but when we did, he kept my license and lip stuff. I don't go anywhere w/out it. I store it in my sports bra, so if we go someplace that it wouldn't be appropriate for me to be digging around in my shirt, I make him carry it. And I've made him hold my bag several times too...sometimes just b/c it's funny, not b/c I really need him to hold it. Suddenly you'll see him look down and make a face and hear a roar "Why the hell am I carrying this dumb thing?" and all the women titter and giggle.

My wife never does.
