Well, if you know that vendors pricing which is publicly posted on their sites, it would be difficult for them to bump up the price or it would be immediately noticeable. So I don''t think that is a problem. The best cut new stones that become available might not have made it to an online database yet.Date: 7/17/2006 2:24:44 PM

I would not recommend ''telling them'' that you are looking for the stone.
The way it works is they find the stone that they think will match your requirements,
they bump up the price a little bit and offer you the rock.
The best way for you is to search database ( since you already know what you are looking for)
find several stones that you like, and ask them to get it for you and then decide whether you like it or not.
The key here is to KNOW WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR and to know how much that stone cost so you don''t pay premium.
Good luck.
That is definitely NOT true of PS vendors. Many of them work on slim margins to begin with and they would not bump up the price just because someone may be ready to buy it. It seems many PS vendors tend to price their goods based on how much THEY spend for them...not how much they randomly think they can get from a customer. Whenever I have shopped I always compare the price offered to me against other stones from similar vendors and what else is out there and it is always competitive.Date: 7/17/2006 2:24:44 PM

Do you have personal experience with a vendor doing this? Or do you just "think" that''s what they do?Date: 7/17/2006 2:24:44 PM

that wouldn''t be very good business practice, now would it? You remind me of my father - he never puts his blinker on because he says he doesn''t want the other drivers to know what he''s going to do. He''s convinced that people speed up to close the gap if he puts his blinker on.Date: 7/17/2006 2:24:44 PM

I''m going to assume it''s the latter, if I''m wrong, please share your experience. However, if my assumption is correct, I would suggest being careful about making blanket statements, especially derogatory ones.
