I am considering being a part time nanny to two infants around 7 months of age. I''ve done a lot of nannying in the past and have gotten paid anything from 10-15 an hour. I''ve never watched two infants at once, however... and I know that can be very challenging!

What would you charge? If you''re a mom, what would you pay? This is a nanny share, btw. So.. two families would be splitting the cost. I am thinking something like 13 dollars an hour. Too much, too little?

Thanks!

My friends used a nanny-share for their infant (so nanny watched two infants each day in one home) and I think she was paid $18-20/hr. Non-English speaking nanny w/experience and refs. But we live in an expensive area, daycare in a good licensed center might run $1800-2000/mo.

I used to get $18-$20 for two infants as a nanny doing a nanny share. They were both 6 months old when we started.

Wow, $13? That''s not even a living wage and two infants is A LOT of work which deserves a reasonable pay rate. $20 per hour sounds appropriate.

For two kids, at least $20/hr. I wouldn''t accept less than that.

I''m in NYC - for a college educated nanny, $20/hr is pretty standard. After I had experience and good references, I wouldn''t take less than that. I understand it depends on the area you live in, but considering your families are splitting the cost, I think that is reasonable.

Good luck!

lily where are you located?

Definitely depends on location, but I would not accept less than $20/hour.

depends where you live!

I am paying $12/hour for 25 hours per week (4 days a week). I don''t really pay hourly, more like weekly (whether I need her or not)...but we used the $12 to calculate how much it would be for the week.

I have 5 month old twins, but I work form home so I can help out too...

Oh and she also cleans!

Around here you could charge $20 and hour per baby... Where are you?? I think that will depend on what you can charge.

I am in Austin, TX. 20 seems a little high but I agree that 13 is a little low. I went ahead and told the family 15-18 depending on how much they need done (i.e. baby''s laundry, etc.).

Thanks for all the opinions!

Man, that's good!

I think around here it's 15-20 dependent on experience and that's to watch 1!

Ditto. $20 an hour sounds about right.

We pay ours $15/hr and she also cleans, runs errands (i.e. grocery store, etc). $20 sounds right for 2 LO''s.

I would definitely charge more than 15$ per hour - somewhere in the range of 20$ would probably be good

Also, keep in mind how you are going to do taxes. If you''re an independant contracter, you have to pay both your share and the employers'' shares of SS and Income Tax. Talk about that BEFORE your first pay check and see what they want to do. One of my friends (who was the employer/parent) was audited because of miscommunication. We''re talking audited over around a $15/hour PT job.

We''re right outside of New York and we started out paying our nanny $22.00 an hour. This was in 2008 and now we pay her 25.50. We have twins and since she started, she graduated from college and even though she doesn''t work for us full-time, she does do more than I''ve ever asked of her. That''s why we pay her more. Plus, my kids can kind of be hell on wheels sometimes, and that deserves compensation.

it definitely depends where you live
