Hi,

This is my first post. I don''t usually post but this is a great website!

Anyway, my question is that I''ve heard about the one-month or two-month salary to spend on an e-ring. What about a wedding band? Is there any good rule of thumb?

I have never heard of any rule of thumb as far as cost of a w-band. However, I can make one up for you that I think is pretty darn good: Get a wedding band that you can afford and that you love

i prefer a plain metal wedding band. that way when you are doing chores, you don''t ever have to take your band off.

about 100 bucks for 14k? more for 18k?
a lot more for platinum...

I prefer a plain metal band as well. So it does not take away from my engagement ring and when I am in situations where I don''t want to wear my diamond, I can wear the band alone.

I have a plain 3mm platinum comfort fit band. Its very substantial feeling since its platinum. We paid $400 for it, but that was back in 1995.

I also have an eternity band I got for my 5th anniversary. I find I don''t wear it nearly as much as I thought I would. I prefer the look of a plain band with my diamond ring. I use to wear a .81 ct round (engagment ring) but lately I have been wearing my new 3 stone asscher ring. Both look good with the plain band.

I say, go for what you want, and go for what you can afford.

Our rabbi would only marry us with plain metal bands. I don''t know if other religions have any restrictions but in a jewish ceremony, you need a plain metal band. We could have then replaced my band after with diamonds but we wanted to wear the bands we got married in. Thats why I got the eternity band for 5th year. I thought thats what I really wanted and now I feel kinda guilty I don''t wear it much.

I wear my plain band all the time, and once in a while instead of wearing the asscher or round diamond, I will wear the eternity band with my wedding band. That looks nice too for a change.

Everyone has already given great advice.
Just wanted to let you know about http://www.eweddingbands.com/ A couple of PSers have had good experiences with them.
GOOD LUCK!

I always loved the jewish tradition of having the wedding band be an unbroken, continuous circle.

I know you''re not supposed to have any markings or anything on the outside, but do they let you engrave the inside, with the wedding date or whatever? Always wondered about that.

And on point of the original topic, there are no quidelines. Buy whatever is in your budget that looks good with your engagement ring. If you plan on keeping the same wedding band forever I would make sure it''s not something too trendy or oddly shaped. My mom wore a strange little ruby ring that sorta wrapped around her diamond ring, but when she upgraded her diamond it didn''t fit any more and my dad was very upset when she stopped wearing her wedding ring.
