How much time to find perfect pair?

I am buying myself first pair of diamond stud earrings for my 35th coming up in October. I am almost 100% sure what I want and how much to spend based on all my PS reading and will just need help narrowing it down to final 2 stones. Aim is to get amazing 2.2 tcw RB F-H color and VS2-Si1 clarity. And, of course, what is most important, is I have been saving my pennies to get BEST cut. ASO Ideal in all the important areas with top B, F, S... etc.

Since sometimes there are not necessarily two matching stones that meet my newly developed PS educated strict criteria- how much time should i give myself for the search? I am not ready to buy today because I really would rather wait until my official birthday month. However, i am afraid once October comes- my luck is it will be weeks and weeks before just the right stones come along.

When should I start the birthday stud search?

(only buying stones from PS online venders of course- i already went to local B&m and very disappointed with $ and/or selection)

I would start looking as soon as you have the funds and then purchase when you find the perfect set (not wait until your b-day). I had decided to purchase studs recently and on a Thursday looked through the database of the vendor I was planning to buy from and found four sets of stones that interested me. On the following Monday, I called the vendor and by Tuesday, I had ordered the earrings. The following week ALL the other stones I had been interested in were sold. Seems like there was a sudden wave of stud buyers.

From what I was told G-H VS2 stones are one of the most popular and it since you're looking at earrings right around that at the one ct. mark, those stones will be highly sought after.

You can also call a vendor and tell them to keep an eye out for a pair of stones for you!

Oh, and happy birthday! My 35th is in Dec. and I'm trying to figure out what to get! Too many options out there.

Good info. i have been watching inventory for1-2 months now as I narrowed down what exactly i wanted and I did see huge waves of inventory. This is why I KNEW don''t wait to last minute! Cangrats on your studs- how did you set? I am going with martini... can''t wait! martini, stud... a perfect b-day!

I had mine set as four-prong basket, which I''m happy about. Since i was on a budget, I went with WG. In retrospect, I wish I had picked platinum instead, but oh well.

I found it easiest to find matched pairs of WhiteFlash ACA''s since they have specific cut criteria. I was looking for .75 each H VS2''s and it took 3-4 months for the pair I wanted to appear. But they were a perfect match. I''d suggest not limiting yourself to 2.2 ctw. Many diamonds will be cut right at 1.0 to 1.05 and it might be easier to find two just over a carat as opposed to 1.1 cts. each. The selection of one carat stones in G-H color is usually pretty good, so watch WF site as new stones are posted every 6 weeks or so. Do not try and wait until your birthday month. I wanted some for my last birthday in September and I found them in early January.

I also got the WF four prong baskets in white gold and love them!
