How much of a change to notice a difference in color?

What is the minimum upgrade in color that will both a) look noticably different than my K and b) loo

My BGD is a K and I can definitely see the tint from the side but it doesn''t bug me yet, maybe it never will. I hope not, I want to upgrade to a 2.3-2.5 one day but that would be unrealistic if I need to upgrade the color as well.

BGD has a couple of nice options - big price jump from 1.2 to a 1.5 though:

AGS-1040375560020 Brian Gavin H&A 1.205 G SI2 56.2 61.3 6.82 6.85 4.2 $6,128.00

AGS-1040381680016 Brian Gavin H&A 1.530 G SI1 57.5 61.3 7.37 7.40 4.53 $12,366.00

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I have an F transition cut, an Infinity J with SB fluo, an L OEC, and an Infinity S with SB fluo.

The J looks pretty much as white as the F to me. The F is not well cut (even for a transitional), and the J is an Infinity and is half the size of the F. Also, the J''s setting completely covers the side view.

The L OEC is a gorgeous cut. I definitely see color in almost all lighting.

The S is obviously tinted.

When I''ve been wearing the S or the L a lot and then put on the J, the J looks icy white. When I''ve been wearing the F a lot and then put on the J, that''s the only time I think I can see some tint in it.

I think a lot depends on the setting and how much of the side view it hides.

I think it all depends on what you are looking for. I struggled with this a lot. Don''t buy a K looking for a white stone. I have a K (that''s tiny by PS standards) and it looks ivory to me. It looks really great with the yellow gold band. I honestly love the slightly yellowish color. Ks and other lower colored stones should be appreciated on their own (if that makes sense). Having said all of that, I have a family member with an H color radiant. I can''t see any color in it. If you get a rb, you should be fine.

Here''s a link to my K:

I voted for an I but I would go with an I that has some Fluor. That should help modify the price jump for going up in color and well I just like fluor.

Dreamer, I have a EGL-USA "I" color that''s closer to a "J." I hardly notice any color at all, and while I consider myself "color sensitive" to the perception of color, I don''t tend to dislike tint and have a higher tolerance for warm stones.

That said, I believe how the GIA rates faintly tinted diamonds like K is more broad than the near colorless diamonds. For example, the "K" spectrum features a wider variety of diamonds, some with more or less tint while fewer diamonds would fit into the "I" category. Someone please correct me if I''m wrong.

So in other words, I''m not sure how yellow your K is. I think you could see a difference and be happy with a J, plus it would allow you to maximize size. I have yet to read about any PSer being unhappy with their J stone and wishing they had gone with a higher grade. To the contrary, I read lots of replies about how for future upgrades, many PSers would be happy to downgrade their color.

I voted I. I have 2 I color .3s in the WF handmade bezel earrings (they''re WF Expert Selection-AGS 0 but not ACAs) and they look very white to me. My e-ring is a 1.51 G radiant and it also looks super white. I actually don''t see any difference between the I''s and the G''s.

I voted for I, since I think you could definitely see a difference there ... but if you want a colorless effect, the H might be a better bet. For a setting with melee, definitely!

Those are exactly the two stones I was going to point out, but doesn''t it just blow your mind that an extra .325 pts. doubles the price? For as long as I''ve been buying loose diamonds, I still can''t get used to that.

I also have a K, and once I noticed the color in it, I started looking for color in my I''s as well. You know what, I finally saw it.
So my vote for that size is an H.

Its also the SI1 vs SI2 difference.

Just wanted to share that I have a G and it is icy white, I do believe I am color sensitive...When selecting stones, G was the lowest I was willing to go. There is no milky, filmy color in it as well.

A milky and filmy appearance would come from negative clarity characteristics (inclusions) or possibly very extreme flourescence, but not from color.
