Hi there,

I need to insure my stone and I really don''t know how much insurance to buy for it. I know what we paid 6 years ago and I''m wondering what the current value would go for today. I also learned that I shouldn''t over-insure.

Here are the specs on my GIA certified stone:

Round Brilliant
Measurements: 7.98-8.11 x 4.85
Carat weight: 2.01
Color Grade: I
Clarity Grade: VVS2

Proportions:
Depth: 60.3%
Table: 69%
Girdle: Thin to Very Thick Faceted
Culet: Small

Finish:
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Flourescence: None

I really appreciate anyone who can help!

If you type your specs in the Pricescope your diamond feature at the top of the page, you can find out what similar diamonds are currently going for. You will most likely need to go to an appraiser to attain documentation for insurance purposes.

you'll need an official appraisal to insure it most likely, so find an independent appraiser and have them give you a realistic retail value. good luck!

I am weary of these appraisals because they always tend to inflate the prices, then I would be stuck over-insuring. Any suggestions on reputable insurance appraisers out there?

Just tell them you want a reailstic retail appraisal for insurance purposes and you do not want it overinflated.

You can also click on Resources then Appraisers up at the top of the page for a list in your area.
