Of course it could have. But airport security has better things to do, like frisking anyone who only has a one way ticket. So any moron who travels a bit has figured out that you purchase a RT ticket and then cancel the second leg once you''ve arrived (easily done on certain airlines) and you avoid being frisked and your bags being searched. Such a screwy system. Bah!
