are all solitare settings created equal? or do some hold the diamond up higher making it look bigger/better?

if i buy online from www. abazias .com, which seems to have unbelievable deals, should i worry about how the diamond is set?

unless you're considering choosing between a bezel setting and a high 4-prong...

leaky stones look better when light can get in. or else they look dark.

I would have whoever sold the stone set it. If you bought the stone from Abazias, I'm inclined to trust them to set the stone correctly.

so if i want the diamond to sit up higher, i should choose a 4-prong high setting?

Most women like low or medium heights. High height can be clumsy, and the look is clunkier.

If you WANT a high setting to make it look bigger, I suggest a cathedral setting.

There's no reason to get a high setting SPECIFICALLY to improve performance unless your stone is leaky.

6 prongs are safer than 4. You should get 6 or 4 depending on what she wants (and have insurance.)

See "surveying diamonds in NY" video: http://diamondscope.pricescope.com/

see the DiamXRay image...white is light leakage. There is little white in this stone. It will not look better/brighter in a high 4 prong compared to a medium 4-prong.

You're getting a princess though, right? You want to protect the corners there ... so a bezel, a 1/2 bezel or a four corner setting would be best depending on the light needs of your particular stone... and your taste, of course. You could also get a tension setting made for a princess dimendscaasi has some nice examples of that... although they only make settings for diamonds bought from them.
