I have a good friend at a nearby jewelery store (where I had my diamond set). I pass by it almost everyday and if I stop in my friend always offers to clean my ring for me. I have already cleaned it 2x this week and am planning to do it again on Friday. I fear I''m becoming obsessed with keeping it clean and am wondering if too much cleaning is bad for the diamond. My diamond is I in color and even though it faces up white, I''m afraid that any dirt on it will make it look bad.

I ultrasonic clean my rings almost every day

Cleaning as often as you like is totally fine. Don''t worry! Many of us try and clean our rings everyday.

I don''t think it matters how often you clean it as long as you don''t become OCD about it.

I clean my ring every day, too. I don''t think it makes a difference. At least I hope not!

I think once a day is fine, but over that is getting a little overkill.

I clean mine everyday. There is not much that I hate more than a dirty diamond

My rings go in the ultrasonic everyday too - welcome to the club!

Hi there! I am newlly engaged as well and yes i feel like I need to clean as often as possible to get the most sparkel out of it!! hahah

But I do clean it every day and I went to a very high end boutique the day after to get it cleaned and they told me they use their Cappucino machine(the steamer) to do a quick clean of diamonds. Of course the ultrasonic works much better...but for a quick fix I steam mine in the cappucino machine at work...and it makes it shine beautifully! No harm...it''s just water.

Any one else heard of this?? :)

Thanks everyone! I don''t feel so bad anymore about cleaning my ring often. This is dumb, but I''m scared to use jewelry cleaner and a soft brush because I''m afraid I''ll damage the ring somehow. So, I''ll keep stopping by my jeweler until I get an ultrasonic cleaner. ILoveBeaudry -the cappucino machine idea is interesting! I haven''t heard of it before.

I clean my jewelry every day but quick using the US because I had a diamond come out of a ring. Now I just "soak" my jewelry in my US. I have a steam cleaner i get out on the weekends.

I ultrasonic clean mine once a week, I couldn''t be bothered doing it any more often, and I don''t think they get particularly dirty in a week.

I''m no expert - I don''t think all the abrasive (eg brushing) cleaning in the world would damage a diamond, but I would be wary of brush cleaning metal every day, won''t it eventually wear it away? And you don''t say what kind of metal it is, but if it is rhodium plated white gold, surely this will wear the rhodium off sooner?

I clean mine everyday in the US. I love it to be as sparkly as possible.

I clean my engagement ring every day with jewelry cleaner and a soft brush. There is no way this will damage the diamond, and I don''t worry much about scratching the metal because it''s platinum and will develop the patina no matter what. Platinum won''t wear away--it will just displace, and it can be restored to its original polished state with a professional polishing. You can lose gold when you scratch it, but gentle cleaning with jewelry cleaner and a soft brush should really be no problem. I clean my white gold-sapphire ring with it fairly often and no problems thus far. Honestly, I''m a bit more hesitant to put my some of my rings through the ultrasonic because it can potentially knock diamonds out of their setting (pave).

I clean mine everyday! (Actually twice today since I went to Chilis and got sour cream on it!)
