Probably not enough to be worth the $? No really, you just need to count them all up...

I'm worried about whether the diamonds are good quality though And NO returns.

You'd think the seller would do the counting, wouldln't you?

Trishy, you didn't ask...but I thought I'd just mention a few things...I hope you're an experienced Ebay buyer, and are confident that it's a reputable seller. (I checked here:
http://www.toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=y-cityeauctions&Dirn=Received+by
and they look good.)

It's very pretty, but it concerns me that there is no mention of it's working condition. I'd want to know if it was running, when it was last serviced, etc.

In my experience, diamond watches from the '40s-'50s are pretty plentiful out there...and they often seem priced considerably lower than you'd expect...considering the diamonds and (usually) platinum involved.

I drove myself crazy trying to add up the carat weight and gave up..maybe some math-type can do it. But IMO it's really more about how it runs and how it looks than it is about diamond content.

ETA: One last thought...does this seller specialize in estate watches? (I forgot to look) Most reputable estate watch dealers have their goods checked and serviced before they sell them....

I looked at the listing. The auction is closed now, with no bids. Maybe the seller will relist??!!

As to whether or not the watch works,......... Someone did ask:

Q: You never mentioned - does this watch work? Jun-07-07
A: This watch Belonged to the clients mother who passed a few years ago. She has never worn the watch and this has been sitting for many years, so i have no doubt it needs a battery replaced. I will have a new battery installed upon the close of the auction by a professional jeweler before shippiing to ensure it does in fact operate. If I find it wont run the winnning buyer will be granted a full refund if winning buyer so wishes. But we have sold many fine pieces from this client and every buyer has been more than happy with the purchases made. You are assured if this watch does not run You will be granted a full refund no questions asked before shipping out to you. thanks for shopping www.ycityeauctions.com

Sounds like the seller does not know if the watch works or not. You''d think they would have, at the very least, checked that out before listing for sale.

Seriously. Duh. How much does a watch battery cost? Versus what he wants to get for the watch? DUH!

To answer your question, this all works out to 'about' 3.725 ctw. That is, if all the 'about's in the description are accurate.

I would think that at a minimum the battery issue IS A RED FLAG!!

...No?

If there are 101 ways in which a "simple", fully visible loose diamond can be (mis)represented to take advantage of the pricing to an end user...then there are 1,000,001 ways in which to do this with a watch!!...you really, really have to know your stuff (or know someone who does know their stuff) when dealing with watches!! The average person has no concept even as to the order of magnitude of this potential problem...in fact, it''s been said that even some jewelers are unwittingly wearing counterfeit/cannibalized watches thinking they the real thing!

YIKES!!!! I agree!

What''s a Hamilton of that vintage doing with a battery anyway??? Either it''s been dickered with in recent years and had the original works replaced with battery-type works, or it''s some kind of knockoff...

I wouldn''t go near it.
