How much are people spending on their wedding ring sets?

My ering and wedding band was close to 25K. I KNOW that my ering was THE purchase of my life! To me it was ( and still is ) worth every penny I saved for the last 20 years. My silent life companion... I paid cash for my set, I dont believe in financing especially as this is somewhat of a luxury item, not like a car or a home...

I am much older and actually came on here looking for a new set for an anniversary, so naturally we paid cash.

BUT....30 years ago when we got engaged, we were 21 and right out of college starting our first jobs. We wanted to get married. My husband borrowed the money from his dad to buy me a 1 ct. diamond. He paid him back in a few months. That enabled us to go ahead and get married. I see nothing whatsoever wrong with that. People on here who are in young or in school (or whatever) and know that they will soon have the money to pay off the ring certainly should not be put down for financing a ring as long as they responsibly pay it off. I do not see an engagement ring as a frivolous expenditure.
